Following the release of their previously shared delights ‘Hello Spirit’ and ‘Waiting’, which was premiered on US tastemaker site Ones To Watch, Swedish genre-bending duo Slide now continue to support their forthcoming EP ‘Things I Tell Myself’ with the opening track ‘Keep Shining’.
‘Keep Shining’ is the third new release to be lifted from their forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Things I Tell Myself’, which is set to arrive on July 31st. Much like their work to date, this new offering brings back more of that multifaceted and dynamic sound they have always looked to produce. With a warm and sweeping production layered within a rich and textured atmosphere, their newest cut makes for the perfect introduction to their upcoming collection.

Speaking about their new release, the band said, “We felt like young people nowadays, including us, spend a lot of time worrying about the future and growing up and making money and stuff like that. And we don’t really have the answers either so we’re pretty much just singing to ourselves saying “keep going it’ll all make sense at some point’.”

With their upcoming release of ‘Things I Tell Myself’ EP, they’ve decided to rip it up and start again. It doesn’t just exceed expectations but defies their own past – embracing that rebellious punk spirit to coalesce new sounds and daring soundscapes: you’re more likely to find swaggering hip-hop beats, pop sensibilities and an unparalleled attitude than your standard rock fare. The tunes are all the better for it.

Inspired by the rulebreakers of both the past and present, their new collection is said to be a rediscovery of the rebellious phase of Kid Cudi, and a recognition of the new wave of Brockhampton and Dominic Fike’s ideology mesh perfectly with their own.

“There’s such an incredible amount of freedom in having a punk mentality and applying to new sounds and textures. We’re still working on finding the perfect sound, but this is an evolution not a regression.”

Recorded in their bedrooms, the pair produced and recorded the songs with no outside help, overcoming some of the early frustrations they had with the music industry at large.

“I used to work pretty hard to cover up what I wanted to say because it felt so weird. I can write more clearly and direct now. We had a lot of music we’d made and a lot of ideas that we hadn’t been able to execute, so I thought why not just be straight-forward with it and get it done?”

Accompanied by a set of videos shot in Los Angeles, the band’s latest EP is just the start of a bold new era. With fans already clamouring for new music on their social media channels, the duo trust that they recognise the band not just for their rock songs, but for harbouring the outspoken attitude too. Work on the next EP is well underway, and they’re keen to keep honing their craft.
