INTERVIEW: Belmont Boys

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We are doing fantastic! Cooked up a ton of new house records over the quarantine period and we’re finding a lot of time to peacefully reflect and meditate.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “PJ”?

PJ is a chill but highly danceable record we have been looking forward to dropping for a long time. It’s out now on Insomniac’s IN / ROTATION label. It’s our debut single as a duo.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It’s funny you ask because most songs just come spontaneously in the studio. In this case, Très played a show with the Chainsmokers at the Iowa State Fair last summer. After the show he felt that he just needed to get in the studio and PJ was born. We already knew we were headed in house direction at that time.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

We have a video of Diplo playing the track live on a recent Mad Decent Twitch stream. That’s about as lit of a live show as you can get these days.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was quick. The best songs are usually made in one or two studio sessions.

What role does Chicago play in your music?

Chicago is a huge inspiration for the both of us. During our early years in high school we would crank house records on a single laptop at a Starbucks and talk about CDJs during gym class..although we only had a Hercules controller. Chicago offers a big music scene. We would play at Medusas Nightclub back in the day and move on to playing all major nightclubs and venues like Spy-Bar, Prysm, and Suberranean to name a few. It was always a dream to play Chicago venues just from the energy Chicago offered and seeing different artists play there inspired us to keep this going.

How does your European background and upbringing influence your music?

We can’t escape it and we love it. Being european is a big influence on this project just because we have been around family and friends that would listen to disco and electronic music from a young age so we just grew up around it. Runs in the blood. People in our country love to dance and aren’t afraid to hit the dancefloor to get it shaking.

Having such a blossoming and great career together and as individuals – does that put any pressure on you guys as you work on new material or rather the opposite?

Not exactly. It’s nice not being stuck in a box creating only one style of music. Having different outlets for releasing music is a nice asset for us. Some days we want to make house, some days hip-hop, some days moombahton, some days dubstep, i mean.. It all depends on the energy in the session and what we are trying to achieve that day. Belmont boys has been in the making past few years. We have been recording content at all shows and festivals all these years and we finally decided that we have enough material stocked up to launch this project right. It helps that the Insomniac record team believes in us too. It’s definitely a special project for the both of us and we are very thankful to see these opportunities blossoming into what we have been working towards for the last 10 years.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

KURWA TAK! ( ‘FUCK YEAH!’ – in Polish) – We have a 12 song LP ready plus a treasure chest full of Belmont Specials Edits which may or may not get released. We have been gathering music/content for the world to absorb when we feel ready to do so. IN / ROTATION has been good to us so we will see what is next 😉 We look forward to releasing more on the label.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not at the moment..but music is coming. We promise! Follow us at @1800belmont on the gram or snapchat @belmontboys as we like to preview what we work on. Tres is in Chicago and Plumpy is in LA so you may see two sides of workflow if you tune in. We like to shake it. ok?

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes. Slovakia. Poland. and then the US of A once travel is back in action.

What else is happening next in BELMONT BOYS’ world?

We are launching our documentary series on YouTube so make sure to subscribe to our channel in the links below this interview. There will be both old and recent footage of the two of us making music, playing shows, or just random clips of us shopping for avocado toast, backyard bowls, matcha, drip, gasando, kolbasando and.. well..shakeando!!
