Hi Kerria, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been very good. Trying to keep myself positive and busy during these difficult times. Since I’m currently in Gibraltar, I’ve been on quarantine for more than 13 weeks so I can kind of gotten used to this “new lifestyle”. However, I cannot wait for this all to be over so I could get out and continue with many of my plans that were put on hold.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “No More”?

No More took quite some time to nail. I’ve written this song with a Ukrainian producer Artem Pivovarov. Due to the pandemic and lockdown, many of my other releases were put on hold due to not being able to attend the studio. Having ‘No More’ as an “almost finished project” it felt like the perfect moment to have the song mixed and mastered in order to release it during these times. To complete the song, we reached out to a UK based producer Andrew Kingslow. Andrew was able to transform the song giving it a new feel, making it more dynamic and uplifting. No More was written prior to the pandemic which proved even more how thoughts materialize. No More is based on feeling trapped and not being recognized. However, once you reach your “enough is enough” point, you become unstoppable. The line “turn me on the radio” stands for being heard everywhere possible. You are not being silent anymore, you are not afraid to speak your truth, and that someone who’s hurt you is going to get the message whether they like it or not.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I often get inspired by my surroundings during my writing sessions. I like to combine my personal experience with someone else’s in order to reach a relevant subject which touches many lives. I started writing No More at the end of 2019. Having spoken to many people, I’ve experienced similar responds. Understandings like wanting to end 2019 and start the new year with a fresh mind. Including myself, I planned to start 2020 with a strong mind set and confidence, thinking that there is no turning back and no more fear of failure. All those times that we were let down, feeling unworthy, and uncapable especially when comparing ourselves to others, we get anxiety of not being able to succeed. Awakening to a new reality check, I’ve decided to stop spending my precious time trapped in my own negative thoughts and fears. I wanted to start the new year with self-loving and no regret.

What made you want to invite all these influencers into the video? Was there like a selection process?

The idea of doing this project came during quarantine, when I understood that I won’t be able to film a music video for No More while on lockdown. However, this situation opened new opportunities which if not for the pandemic, my team and I probably would not think of.  Having started a new TikTok account during lockdown, I noticed the number of trends and creative people on it. I became a big fan of TikTok myself and started to enjoy making content and even got good recognition. TikTok is pretty much what gave the idea to make a music video with as many of their creative influencers involved. It is such a diverse platform with so many incredibly talented people that are willing to express themselves in many different fields. This is why I wanted to combine their unique skills with a strong message based on what’s happening today, and put it all into one project.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

The filming process was done in the comfort of everyone’s homes. There weren’t any specific rules to the project as I wanted to give freedom for every influencer to be as creative as they want their video to be. I just asked everyone to try and film themselves during the day so natural lighting will be facing them. I also asked them to film themselves on their phone vertically, and have my song No More play in the background. The rest was up to them and I can proudly say that I was very surprised with the outcome. It turned out better than I expected. We had videos from all over the world. Videos of people doing incredible drag makeup, different styles of dancing, comedy acting, and even magic tricks. Everyone had the freedom to do whatever they were feeling while listening to my song. From my side, I filmed myself wearing 3 different looks with the help of my mom as my stylist and cameraman, and me as my own MUA. It was definitely an interesting experience, I have many bloopers to share.

How was the recording and writing process?

Fortunately, the vocal recording was done before the pandemic so all we had to do was to get the mixing and mastering done. Andrew and I used a web player called LISTENTO which helped me virtually be involved in the production process while he was working his magic on the track.

What role does Gibraltar play in your music?

Having lived in many parts of the world, being able to speak multiple languages, and having the privilege to being exposed to various cultures, I can definitely say that Gibraltar also plays a role in my music. Due to all these advantages, I like to call myself an International Artist.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material soon? How’s that coming along?

I can most definitely say that there is new music coming very soon. Perhaps even this summer! I’m currently having virtual studio sessions from my home studio and via Zoom calls. I’m very excited to present my next music project.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I cannot mention just yet. But I am planning to release a new EP.

Any plans to hit the road?

Most definitely yes. I had that plan for 2020 but just like many of us, that plan had to be put on hold. As of now, I’m focused on writing new material so I could prepare myself for the road in 2021 and create a new fun set.

What else is happening next in KERRIA’s world?

I’m building my own band so I could prepare a new set to hit the road in 2021. Most likely starting with Europe and then hopefully with the rest of the world. I’m also looking into working on new collaborations with different artists worldwide. I’m excited to expend my music knowledge with other talented people.
