For a successful interior designer, the world’s the limit. With luxury and possibility at every turn, projects and assignments are often more than just exciting they are life changing. With access to stunning homes in beautiful locations, the best designers see the world from a different angle. They know how the world can shape our lifestyles, and they bring that beauty into their clients’ homes. Renowned interior designer Desiree Busnelli reflects on her career and how much she appreciated traveling for work and exploring new possibilities.
A native of Seattle, Desiree currently resides in California with her family in their incredible home overlooking the hills. “Traveling has opened up so many doors for me,” states Desiree. “From people to places, my life as an interior designer has always been very rewarding.” Desiree’s love of travel and culture started at a young age. Inspired by her grandmother, who was also an interior designer, Desiree would relish in the details, style, and architecture of her grandmother’s luxury model homes and showrooms. “That was where I saw my first bidet,” she laughs. “Something so common in the rest of the world yet so foreign here.”
Understanding that style has no boundaries is what fuels her passion for design. “A good designer knows that they have to step outside their comfort zone for inspiration,” explains Desiree. “Clients from all over the world reach out to me specifically because they know I will bring them a classic look with fresh eyes.” Desiree has styled homes from Mystique island to Italy, working with fashion icons and elites looking for nothing less than the best the world offers.
“Traveling was always exciting because we always had a project in hand,” says Desiree. “As we traveled the world for work, one possibility always came after another.” Desiree is continuously inspired by the influence history and culture have on our cities and homes. “Whether it’s a quaint mountain town or bustling city, every place is different and has its own unique style,” states Desiree. “As a designer, that is the experience I am looking for.”
While Desiree has loved to travel and still maintains an office in Milan a lot of her focus now is on homeschooling her children. Desiree explains, “taking the right precautions in 2020 is a top priority for us.” Even though traveling might be taking a backseat for the designer right now, it doesn’t mean there has been a slowdown in projects. “With technology, we can still work almost anywhere,” says Desiree. For Desiree, everything is possible, and the world continues to be a place full of wonder and inspiration.
