Interview: Megan Alyssa

What got you started/motivated you to make music?

It has always been a dream of mine to pursue music as a career; however, I always had this mindset that it was near impossible. My parents really motivated me to believe that I can do anything I wanted with hard work and determination. Honestly, I love to watch YouTube videos and watching singers perform. There is a special moment for me in particular that motivates me to pursue music. When an artist is performing and he or she pulls the microphone away and points it to the crowd and the crowd knows all the lyrics, in that moment the chills always run throughout my body and I know that I crave that adrenaline rush in my life.

How long have you been doing music?

I have been singing for as long as I can remember. I started posting YouTube videos of me singing covers in middle school. Later, I started teaching myself how to use GarageBand and recorded more music. By the age of 17, I began recording professionally at Cove City Sound Studios. More recently, I started writing my own music and I just released my album “Hit My Line.” All of my songs except 1 were actually written by me so I’m really proud of how far I have come as an artist.

How did you make a name for yourself in your industry?

With the help of my parents and my management team I was able to get my name out there. As an artist, you have to invest in yourself to see the results you want. You truly have to believe in yourself and have passion in what you do.

What make you different as an artist?

I believe that my distinction as an artist comes from my versatility. My love for all kinds of music is evident throughout the music I release. Personally, I am passionate about almost every genre of music. I pour that passion for into my songs to create a different sound. I really don’t want to be boxed in as a Pop singer or an R&B singer. I would love to generate a fan base that can appreciate all styles of music. I feel that that is very different because the majority of artists have a specific fan base. I want to break down those barriers and allow people that love all genres to have an album to listen to that can give them that diversity.

What keeps you motivated?

My love for music keeps me motivated! And of course, listening to other artists keeps me motivated. If I hear a new song that I like sometimes I will get inspired to write. My parents also always keep me motivated by inspiring me with their work ethic.

What are your goals moving forward as an artist?

As an artist, I would love to be known internationally. I hope to grow a fan base with a love for all music from all over the globe.

What do you have coming up?

I am always working on new projects. I like to keep myself busy. I have many songs that I’ve been sitting on that will hopefully be released very soon! I have also been invited to perform at Billboards headquarters in New York City. Recently, I collaborated with an Electronic Music Producer, JSTEF, on a song that I am so excited about. We actually don’t have a release date yet, but you can probably expect it this summer!
