Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
“Hey whats up! Thanks for having us. We’ve been good. Just staying productive during quarantine. Can’t wait to get a haircut though!” – JOE RASCAL
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Kult Freestyle”?
“This song is a war cry to those that didn’t believe in us . The Kult is built up of fans from CLUB UBB, and the alliances we’ve made within the Toronto music community” – JUSTIN TRASH
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
“Yes. Those that didn’t believe in us, inspired us.” – JUSTIN
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
“It was controlled chaos but in a good way because all our friends were on set for this shoot. The overall experience was a dream come true because it was our first time working on a proper music video set involving a production company (Breathe), and a crew, and we really had the best people involved, which made the process fun! angelicamilash directed the video. She is super talented. We also have to thank our producer Mikayla Fasullo. We couldn’t have done this without her.” – ROC LEE
How was the recording and writing process?
“It was definitely a learning experience because we individually bring our own personalities into the songwriting process. This will also be our first álbum, but we’ve learned a lot about each other along the way which has only brought us closer. Overall we are really proud of this debut and can’t wait to share it with everyone” – ROC
What was it like to work with DeepHartt and Dutch Revz? How did those relationships develop?
“We actually know them both from working on separate projects. DeepHarrt is a talented up and coming producer from Korea and we wanted to find a way to collaborate with him. At the same time we are also talking with Dutch on a collaboration and the perfect opportunity came up with Kult Freestyle to Collaborate with both of them” – ROC
How much did he get to influence the song?
“I think both producers equally brought their own personality into the song” – ROC
What role does Toronto play in your music?
“A big one. It’s part of our DNA and the fabric of who we are as individuals and as an Asian-Canadian boyband. Being a part of the Asian music community in Toronto is not only an honour but we hold a duty to become the role models we never had growing up. We intend to use our music to showcase that.” – JUSTIN
How do you go on blending your Korean roots with your Canadian upbringing?
“We do this by proudly being ourselves, and by incorporating both cultures into everything we do.” – JOE
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
“Yes! We have a bunch of new material dropping this year. It’s already done and will be with you soon. We can’t wait to share it.” – JUSTIN
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
“Our debut album is called ‘CLUB UBB’. We can’t give away exactly when it will come out because that will ruin the surprise but it will be out this year.” – ROC
Any plans to hit the road?
“Right now we’ve been laying low until it’s safe to travel. Hopefully when things open back up we will go on the road but who knows when that will be.” – JOE
What else is happening next in Uptown Boyband’s world?
“Writing and recording more music and hanging out with our fans! We have been spending time having these Zoom hangout sessions and meeting new fans while COVID is going on. We love doing them.” – JUSTIN
