LIL HALIMA Releases New Single ‘FRIENDS’

Kenyan-Norwegian singer, songwriter, producer, and visual artist Lil Halima releases her brand-new single titled ‘Friends’ via Island Records today. At only 21-years old, Lil Halima has been nominated for two Norwegian Grammy’s and the coveted Nordic Music Prize. She caught the public’s attention with a stunning COLORS session last year (invited back for their A COLOURS live stream), and released the Brown Girl Diary mixtape last year, which documents her romantic relationships and exploration of identity, through the prism of a young woman of colour growing up in rural Norway, in a village of only 4000 people. Earlier this year, Lil Halima released “Glue” to critical praise, and now follows up with “Friends” written by herself and Canto – who has also produced the track.

“This song is very special to me. It represents the moments of joy, where I am comfortable around people and just feel like dancing. When I meet someone I vibe with, and we have fun together. I don’t like going out, and I don’t like big crowds, so when I meet the right people at the right place and things just click, its soooo much fun, and I feel the way I feel in this song. I also been listening to a lot of disco music. This song is influenced by modern day pop and the authentic 80s black disco. Did this one with the producer Canto who I worked with a lot before, and we really just vibed it out.  I feel so much joy from this song, and I hope you will too!” Says Lil Halima.

Since her debut EP in October 2018 titled ‘love songs for bad lovers’, Lil Halima garnered big tastemaker praise, not only for her music; but Lil Halima is a creative force; heavily involved with every element of her music, from the song writing to the production and visual elements of her music videos – often directing them herself. MTV celebrates how Lil Halima has “developed such a unique aesthetic for someone so young”.
