SINGLE REVIEW: Tough Times by Aneesa Sheikh

Aneesa Sheikh is one of a new breed of US multi-talented artists on track to becoming a global sensation. With a string of awards to her name and blossoming modelling career (Miss Michigan Teen USA 2020), Aneesa’s latest track Tough Times is set to do big things for this rising music star. Aneesa attended IMTA (International Model and Talent Association Convention in New York thee summer of 2019) where she won ‘Most Sought after Female Talent’ and a scholarship to record an original song. After winning the title of Miss Michigan Teen USA 2020 she released her debut single, Bad Thing in January of 2020. In just four months the track’s official video has accumulated more than 100k streams on YouTube. Tough Times is a contemporary power-pop track about resilience and hope. Written for her ailing father, Aneesa’s impassioned response to a personal trauma is a timely reminder of the tenacity of the human spirit during challenging times. After her father underwent a medical crisis, Aneesa, who was living with him at the time, turned her attention to founding a non-profit organization Music4M.I.R.A.C.L.E., which aims to help foster the benefits of music therapy. Aneesa’s new track is a powerful reminder of this. The track begins with some subtle vocal textures and a mesmerising rhythm and soon transforms into a rousing blend of pop and rock swathed in contemporary sonic flourishes and harnessing a strong statement of self-preservation and drive. As Aneesa says of the song, ‘Tough Times don’t last, but tough people do’ is a phrase my dad always told me growing up. When he became ill, I reminded him of that phrase. I knew that the message he always told me would have a greater effect if it was in a song. The song resonates with my father very much and gave him his light again. Tough Times shares equal importance all over the world during this pandemic and after’. Featuring an alluring vocal performance from Aneesa, unforgettable hooks and a universal lyric, Tough Times is sure to garner huge support at radio and on all online streaming platforms.
