INTERVIEW: Madman State

1) Hi Mad, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been alright man, just busy being creative and trying to plug myself throughout lockdown lol. Same old but in a different climate.

2) Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Believe It Now”?

Sure man. ‘Believe it now’ is an uplifting and positive song embracing one’s uniqueness and ability to make your way through life without compromising who you are. It applies to everyone in their lives, but for me personally it embodies the path I’ve come on from creating all aspects of my music/vision from the bedroom to performing it in front of my followers. It feels good to know my efforts have come from an authentic place regarding making music that only I know how.

3) Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I think the headway I’ve made in recent years kind of put me in a positive place reflecting on recent accolades I’ve made and made me realise all this was done through my own doing. It felt good! And so that’s where the lyrics came from for this song. Also, I feel people are quick to look at what others are doing and try and mimic their efforts as an attempt to replicate the same successes or whatever. Your own path is your own personal mark that you leave on the world, you know? It’s never going to be the same as another persons’.

4) Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Haha well, I can’t lie there’s something brewing in this department for the 26th June. All I’m going to say is make sure you subscribe to my Vevo channel! – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUxJLLsw7PNuHYTC-JmbiLQ

5) How was the recording and writing process?

The recording/writing process was pretty solid man. Usually I like to meditate on songs to make sure the lyrics come out naturally etc.. But for this one it felt like because of the aforementioned notion it seemed to easily flow out and I knew exactly how I wanted to express myself. It was dope creating the melodies as well! Recording the song was smooth also, Anousha really grasped the melodies well and brought her own spin on them which was sick!

6) What was it like to work with Anousha and how did that relationship develop?

I’ve worked with Anousha before on a couple old songs of mine so we already had a good working chemistry. She’s proper attentive to how I see the end version of songs and proper delivers on them! As a songwriter with a deep voice, it feels good to have someone who can execute the higher melodies I hear in my head lol.

7) How much did she get to influence the writing?

The lyrics were mostly instigated by myself, but Anousha did have input with replacing certain words of the melodies and stuff to make it flow better. I know from previous that I can trust her in this department. It’s important as a songwriter to let the singer have her spin so it sounds natural and fluid when sung in their voice you know?

8) What role does London play in your music?

Maaaan, London influences my music a lot! It’s my birthplace and the place that has influenced so much about my life. The amount of variety that this city has to offer has influenced my music craft without question. You can definitely hear in my songs/compositions that there’s so many genres I’m influenced, not just rap. I believe that comes from the eclectic vibe London has going on regarding Music and Fashion. Plus you hear me shout out West London a lot cos it’s what raised me 😜 But I love all of London really and truly.

9) Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Most definitely, this is just the first of many to come. For now I’m focusing on singles and visuals but I’ll see how this all can translate into a solid body of work. For any Artist their first official project requires a lot of thought and effort and I’d want to get it right. But for now most definitely expect a string of song and collaborations to come your way!

10) Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I don’t wanna throw any fixed dates as of yet, but people who know me know I always like to play on the Halloween theme, so expect something around then most definitely! Otherwise there’s definitely going to be single releases throughout the remainder of the year man. I get restless if I’m not active so don’t expect me to go quiet for very long at all!

11) Any plans to hit the road?

This Lockdown life has really thrown the music industry into a whirlwind so all I can say so far is that there’s live streams and Instagram performances most definitely that you lookout from me in the coming weeks/months. But yes, once venues/festivals are back up and running I’ve definitely got plans for some great things to happen. Too soon to reveal but all I’ll say is to definitely keep an eye out!

12) What else is happening next in Madman State’ world?

Man, other than the singles I got some collaborations in the works that I’m super excited about releasing because of the talented people I’ve worked with. Also there’s always some form of entertaining content in the form of freestyles/acoustic sessions dropping on my socials so keep a lookout for that in the coming weeks! And people who know me know I have a passion for acting, there’s some things in the works people!
