FIERO release cover of Elliott Smith’s ‘Between The Bars’

FIERO are a dreamy-pop duo whose musical debut is a dark cover of Elliott Smith’s 1997 single ‘Between The Bars’. Made up of Joseph Bogan and Kelsey Bulkin, the pair have carefully crafted a stunning single which is the perfect curtain raiser to FIERO’s EP released later this year.

Discussing Elliott Smith’s single, Kelsey explains:

“Between The Bars to me is about the seduction of the past and whatever used to work to cope with pain that doesn’t work anymore. Elliott’s version is soft and intimate.  When Joseph had this idea to cover it with a more electric and wide production I imagined singing from above looking down on someone in need of protection and love.”

Falling just shy of 3 minutes, the reworking is an easy listen with clever production, searing guitar work and silky vocals that weave a web of perfection over the sparse instrumentation.  With Joseph now based out of Nashville and Kelsey in Los Angeles, the FIERO project grew organically out of a friendship that spans generations and a shared love for music history and how it tells an ongoing story. They have a profound love for California with them both having deep roots planted there.

Make sure you keep your eyes on FIERO, who are set for big things this year.
