Q. Hi Emma, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
A. Hey, I’m great thank you!
Q. Can you talk to us more about your latest single ‘Drunk’?
A. Yes, so drunk is basically about social media today and how we’re all guilty of being a little bit addicted to it. You’ll find people trying to have a conversation with you but you won’t notice because you’re a little drunk like towards your phone.
Q. Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
A. Yes I was actually sitting on the tube on my way to the writing session, just people watching and noticed how everyone was so engrossed by there phones. I thought anything could happen right now and most people wouldn’t even bother to look up from their screens.
Q. Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
A. To be fair I initially wanted to do a video but then a small pandemic made it harder so not at the moment. But that’s not saying I might not revisit the idea further down the line when we have a bit more freedom.
Q. How was the recording and writing process?
A. The writing and recording process was super relaxed, I’m always nervous going into a new session because you never know if you’ll gel with other writers straight away but the guys I wrote it with were both really chill and super talented.
Q. What role does London play in your music?
A. Well the song was written in London and I definitely find the city a huge inspiration with all my writing.
Q. Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
A. Yes, new material is planned already for this year so keep an eye out for when I start announcing.
Q. Any tentative release date or title in mind?
A. Yes, the next one will be during the summer season. The title is loosely connected to something used in water but that’s all you’re getting haha.
Q. Any plans to hit the road?
A. I’d love to hit the road as soon as it’s possible once we’re out of these strange times.
Q. What else is happening next in Emma Kelly’ world?
A. Definitely lots more music, more live shows when I can. I’ve also cooked a lot during the pandemic so maybe I’ll also start a career in that but obviously music first.
