Hi Artifex, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you! I’m very excited for this interview.
I’ve been doing well, staying sane by keeping the creativity flow..
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Chillear”?
Yes! Chillear is my latest song that was released during the beginning of this quarantine. It’s my third song featured by RnB singer Frankie J and produced by multi-platinum recording producer, Luigie Lugo Gonzalez, also mastered by Latin Grammy awarded producer Echo. I’m very proud of this colaboración, I had the opportunity to work with such great Veterans of the industry. The result of Chillear ended up sounding original.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Chillear is a happy explosive song, stuffed musically with multiple flavors such as Cuban mambo and Chachacha, hip hop and rap, trap and Latin pop. This particular song is mainly inspired by my cuban roots.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
Due to the covide and quarantine, the video for Chillear got postponed.
So instead, I decided to creat a Chillear “Global Quarantine” music video. I asked fellow musicians, friends and family to each send me a simple 10sec video of them chilling while listening to the song. I edited all the clips I received from my friends worldwide and ended up creating the quarantine video. It is out now and available to stream on YouTube (Artifex fan page) Facebook (Artifex) and Instagram (iam.artifex).
How was the recording and writing process?
Lugo the producer shared an Cuban inspired beat that he had worked on. I immediately fell in love with it. We started working on developing the song and call over our Cuban songwriter friend Yorly Quintero, to add some more Cuban flavor into the lyric.
How Frankie J became part of the song was super spontaneous. Frankie J and I wore invite to preform at a tv show called “en vivo” at Estrella TV. We went for a coffee right after the show. I shared him the new song Lugo and I had start working on, He listed carefully to the raw beat of Chillear, few hours later on that same day we stepped into the studio and started recording Frankie J’s vocals.
What was it like work with Frankie J and how did that relationship develop?
It has been amazingly inspiring to work with Frankie J, He is a super star. To watch him preform in the studio is mind blowing, his vocals and writing has been such a learning experience. I’m very grateful for his believe and support in me as a artist and the believe in the work we’ve created together. this project has been very important for me and it has formed me to become the artist I am today.
Was it easy for you guys to come together and share each one of your creative inputs?
Frankie J and the team are professionals. We built a relaxed and respectful environment in the studio. Be keeping the creative space open minded to all ideas. That’s what makes it easy to work together, the energy was kept positive .
Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than your own?
I always go full hearted in every project I get into. Im a curious person in general, and collaborating with artists brings me the opportunity to expand and exchange creativity, the growth of the experience is what excites me. It’s more of” what can we creat together with our diverse thoughts”. Diversity is growth, good music comes together when two artists meet in the middle.
How has your Latin roots influenced your writing?
My Cuban Grandmother is my influence. She had that Celia Cruz vibe, A exlosive positive energy, and that’s where you inspiration comes from. She exists in every project i start, in my writing, my music, my comedy tiktok videos and even in my photo shoots.. she is the carácter I will become when I grow old too. As you an see I was very attached to her
Coming from a multi-cultural background – how does this gets to influence your sound?
In every single aspect! I blend all my cultural backgrounds in everything I do, that’s why it might be so confusing for others to pinpoint me as a person and artist, You can’t put me in a box.. I’m the perfect fusion confusion!
My Cuban roots are more loud but if you listen carefully to some sounds you can find the Scandinavian pop influencing too. I love the late 90s or early 2000’s pop and you can hear those elements in my songs as well.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
That’s the plan! More material and more songs. I’m currently working on songs in English, I’m very excited to share once It’s ready to release.
Any tentative release date or title in mind? Any plans to hit the road?
I can’t share any titles or exact dates yet, but what I can share is that I have a couple of songs on the run to be released soon. As we all know there has been a global break, but I really wish and hope that I’ll be able to hit the road and tour soon.
What else is happening next in ARTIFEX’ world?
Work and have the most fun as possible! So I have a couple of new artists collaborations coming, will be in Spanish and English. I’m Working on a solo track in English and letting he creative flow. Im also a TV Host for a talk show called “Get it Girl” on LATV network, I very proud to be part of that show. It’s a female empowering and uplifting show. So overall I’m moving constantly and having fun!
