Forward-thinking Gold Coast producer PACES has announced his artist-friendly Off Leash Records which looks to be a home for inventive pop music from Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. To celebrate the announcement, he’s unveiled a colorful new single called “Dear Driver” with Sydney-based vocalist (and close friend) Muki that fuses punchy production and swagger-soaked verses to match.
On his bubbly collaboration, Paces explains, “Muki and I had so much fun with this song! We’ve been friends for ages so it was pretty effortless when it came to the studio session. I love how unapologetic Muki is as an artist, she totally crushes it on every song, especially this one. Also I should mention that I believe we’re currently living in the golden era of outros. That’s why for this song, we recorded 20 takes of us both yelling the chorus as loud as we could through the outro, like we were at a party singing along.”
As for the launch of Off Leash Records, he remarks, “I’m so excited about launching this record label! One of my favourite things about music is discovering new artists and figuring out how we can combine our skill sets to make something new and unique, which is exactly what I plan to do with the label. With the world in a shambles at the moment, it actually feels like the perfect time to build something positive from the ground up. Let’s let these dogs out!!”
If paradise has a soundtrack, PACES is curating it. The dad and dog lover PACES – real name Mikey Perry – cloaks everything he does in happiness and explosive color as he blurs the line between club and pop music. That electricity translates to PACES’ live performances as well. He’s earned himself a name for his wild live shows which incorporate dancers, light-up inflatable animals, confetti cannons, hypercolour visuals and the added bonus of guest vocalists. He’s also earned himself a name for discovering great artists to sing or rap on his tracks, helping them cross over into the mainstream. The likes of Tkay Maidza, Jess Kent, NYNE and Kučka all found early success on PACES beats. His work is not without its acclaim either, having won InTheMix’s prestigious “Breakthrough Artist Of The Year” award in 2016 with his debut album Vacation. On top of all that, his performance on Triple J’s Like A Version with Australian music icon, Guy Sebastian, is one of the most popular Like A Versions in history.
