Limahl is back with a new single and new image. He releases his first solo music in 8 years entitled ‘Still In Love’ on 5th June via Christopher Music/Tunecore. The track is co-written & co-produced by Limahl with German composer Miro Markus. The single celebrates Limahl’s 40 years in the music business. He started out in 1980 in a production of Godspell.
The single comes off the back of his recent US success which saw Limahl re-enter the mass consciousness when his music was highlighted by three major US television shows. The worldwide No 1 with Kajagoogoo ’Too Shy’ was in the Netflix standalone, interactive ‘Black Mirror’ episode Bandersnatch and also in AMC’s hit anthology American Horror Story: 1984, while his No 1 solo hit ‘Neverending Story’ played a pivotal role in the 3rd season of Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’. Spotify monthly streams of the song went up from 300,000 to 1.5m. (iTunes and other streaming sites were similar).
LIMAHL 2020 ON ‘STILL IN LOVE’
“I have definitely been in the same place emotionally as our protagonist in the song. Dark days, unable to get out of bed with curtains staying closed, (gay love is just as painful as straight love), however, what a great feeling when u get through the other side and start learning to love yourself again. I wasn’t going through this at the time of writing the song, far from it, have been blissfully happy with my lovely partner Steve for 26 years and in our ‘Civil Partnership’ for 11 years).”
He also feels very lucky and grateful to be alive after a recent near death experience in central London. “It was a month before I was due to set off an American tour with ABC & Belinda Carlisle. That WAS almost my story end – pun intended lol”.
Winning the hearts of millions of fans in the 80s as the lead singer of British band Kajagoogoo, Limahl enjoyed the instant celebrity of hitting the top of the charts with their debut single ‘Too Shy’ which was followed by two more Top 20 hits Ooh To Be Ah & Hang On Now (all of which he co-wrote). After being unceremoniously (and infamously) kicked out of the band, Limahl struck out on his own and soon re-emerged in the charts again with his first solo single Only For Love. That was quickly followed with the Giorgio Moroder–produced worldwide smash Neverending Story theme song from the hit film of the same name.
Music isn’t the only entertainment avenue he has in his sights. “I’ve spent the last three years in acting class and in Oct 2019, appeared in my first play on the London fringe at called ‘Earthquakes In London’ about climate change”.
With many TV and performance credits over the years including ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’, ‘Pointless Celebrities’, ‘The Weakest Link’ ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ (ITV1), prior to lockdown Limahl was planning a full-scale return this year. UK Festivals confirmed for 2020 included: Forever Young 11th July in Kildare/Ireland plus Rewind Scotland 19th July & Rewind South (Henley) 15th August. Overseas appearances include ‘X Factor’ Denmark Feb 28th, 80’s Pioneers Zurich 30th May & Formel Eins 80’s Live Dusseldorf Nov 14th. For updates on rescheduled dates please visit www.limahl.com
