Brooklyn Rapper Clintn Lord Reacts to Civil Unrest on ‘Toxic’

Clintn Lord’s angst about the recent senseless police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, incessant killings of innocent Black men by law enforcement and ensuing civil unrest surfaces on his latest song “Toxic” recorded Saturday in Miami, two days before his 27th birthday. Listen here

“I was really fed up with a lot of things going on,” the Brooklyn artist  said about his mindset when making the song produced by Hugo. “My birthday was coming up on Monday. They set the police station on fire here on the day I was in the studio. I just addressed what was going on. I was frustrated and I feel like everybody was frustrated.”

On “Toxic,” the “Ay! Caramba” rapper vents that his need for peace transcends all, rapping, “Maybe I should just go wavy. Maybe I should just get crazy. Maybe I should crash Mercedes. I should crash Ferrari. I’m sorry. I’m crazy.”

Clintn explains the symbolism behind the references to crashing a Mercedes and Ferrari. “The things that are most important to us, I would give all of it up and go and turn crazy,” Clintn says. “None of that matters. I will always be fighting for what’s right for what I believe in, what’s inside of me. Maybe, I’ll just go crazy.”
