Redefining disco for a new era, SkullandHeadphones’s latest track can instantly turn people’s living rooms and kitchens into a dancefloor! The new jam’s vocodered vocal mantra, phat bassline, and pounding house beat may bring to mind the Daft Punk and the classic house cuts of 1980s Detroit, but they couldn’t belong to any other time but this.
‘Without Your Love’ comes hot on the heels of SkullandHeadphones’ first release, ‘The Force’, which we featured the release of channelled the spirit of Sylvester and gave it a 2020 body to dance in. When the world’s nightclubs reopen, both tunes will be going straight into the boxes of self-respecting house and disco DJs and filling floors for years to come!

We recently caught up with SkullandHeadphones aka Tiro Rivera to discuss his latest release.
- Hey Tiro – you’ve had an epic run of releases this past year! Let’s talk about your latest hit ‘Without Your Love’ – tell us about the process of making the track?
I teamed up with my friend Michael Moog on ‘Without Your Love’ – he engineered the whole thing. He was originally working on the track, and he said to me that it needed vocals. I went into the room that he was recording in, and listened to the track – my immediate reaction was “turn it up!!!” They used a brand-new software to do the vocals, I’m really into vocorders. Took us about 2-3 days to do the whole thing!
- What are you doing at the moment to stay creative during these strange times?
I’ve been writing about everything I’ve been thinking and feeling – maybe I can get something creative out of it when we’re out the other side of this lockdown! In the meantime I’ve been revisiting old songs from the 80s New York disco scene and have been reminiscing the memories, that scene ruled!
I’m also thinking forward and planning to do some parties in Miami sometime hopefully in the not too distant future. Like everyone right now, it’s tricky to stay creative, but you’ve just gotta stay positive!
- What is your top tune for playing at home during the summer months?
Any disco song! Right now I’m loving Barry White – I Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love
- What goals do you have for the rest of 2020?
Hopefully we can put on events, and get the more music out there more!
- For anyone who hasn’t heard your music before how would you describe it?
When talking about ‘Without Your Love’ people have said – “Its vocodered vocal mantra, phat bassline, and pounding house beat may bring to mind the Daft Punk and the classic house cuts of 1980s Detroit, but they couldn’t belong to any other time but this.”
- We love your music at Vents Magazine – are there any upcoming releases planned that we can get ready for?
I have lots of unreleased stuff! I hope to get it all out soon, I’m working on it. Maybe an instrumental will be next! Stay tuned.
