SAINT LANE FUSES GENRES IN THE VULNERABLE ‘WHEN DID WE GROW UP?’ FEATURING ROBBIE MILLER

With his most recent release ‘The Family’ being named as “a masterwork” by The Guardian, New Zealand-born, Gold Coast-based Saint Lane continues his journey into honest and vulnerable songwriting with his latest single ‘When Did We Grow Up?’, out today via Risqué. Featuring NIMA winner Robbie Miller and premiered by Billboard, ‘When Did We Grow Up?’ tells the story of a betrayal of friendship during the most devastating and challenging time in Lane’s life, with Lane’s rapping dancing over Robbie’s vocals and a stripped back acoustic guitar, melding genres along the way.

“2019 was the worst year of my life,” explains Lane. “Following the completely unexpected death of my dad, three of my closest friends came together to betray me. I can’t go into details of what they did, however it left me in an awful mental space and I felt like I could never trust a single person ever again. It was killing me that these people showed no remorse for their actions and it was taking away all of the joy in my life. My career was in the best place it had ever been and I was still devastated. I wrote this song called ‘When Did We Grow Up?’, a song that had everything I wanted to hear from my “friends”. I knew these people will never apologise so I apologised to myself on their behalf so I could move on with my own path. It’s my mostly deeply personal track, but I feel like I am ready to live with my truth and set this track free into the world.”

Lane’s deeply personal lyrics are complemented by the vocals of Robbie Miller. “When I received the original demo, I was immediately struck by the song’s swagger and colour,” explains Robbie. “With almost instantaneous inspiration, I spent that night riffing the lyrics and melody that now appear on the song. It was an overwhelming feeling that I hadn’t felt in a while.”

Saint Lane teaming with Robbie Miller brings a special quality to ‘When Did We Grow Up’ and continues Saint Lane’s journey into a modern day storyteller.
