Formed in 2011 in Tel Aviv, Israel, by guitarist Ido Agmon and drummer Guy Shechter, both are well known musicians in the Israeli rock and alternative music scene, started Raaul with the mutual desire to collaborate as a songwriting team. After meeting Jonah Nimoy of Furiosa and touring bass player for Offspring, they were introduced to local LA producer/engineer David Hakopyan (The Apex Theory) who then signed them to his label “Toys of the Masses” in 2017. Both, Ido and Guy, played and recorded as part of Rami Fortis’ band. Fortis is former guitarist of legendary european new wave/post punk 80’s band Minimal Compact. In 2014 his band, together with Ido and Guy, opened for the Rolling Stones on their Israeli show.
Nothing captures this the best than their next album Stoner Pop, a record that beautifully walks the thin line between the post punk of the 80s, the New Wave-ism of Joy Division and the rather experimental approach to Alternative Rock like Incubus does, where everything feels like we’re listening to a Jam session rather than an overly produced album.
About the album, the band comments “In this album we really tried to push our limits as a two piece heavy rock band, from a songwriting perspective, and by using the guidance of a record producer for the first time ever. That’s why we put the word ‘Pop’ in the title..cause it felt like as a so called ‘Stoner Rock’ band we shouldn’t have been doing this..”
