INTERVIEW: Nicky Bondz

Hi Nicky, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been good. I’m staying busy and making music. It’s definitely an interesting time.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Home”?

So “Home”, we decided to release the song a bit sooner than planned because of everything that was going on and since the title of the song is so relevant to what we’re all going through right now.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I haven’t been to my home in a while and kind of wanted to make a song regarding my hometown. And then Covid happened so it kind of just happened that way.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Not yet, not for this particular song. But we will have a lot of new music coming out and will be releasing videos for those when they release.

The single comes off your new album VIZION:2020 – what’s the story behind the title?

It’s a metaphor for clarity and fits perfectly with the year 2020. It’s about focus and having razor sharp vision – like perfect 2020 vision.

How was the recording and writing process?

It went pretty smooth, we made the song pretty fast and it came really naturally for me. It just kind of all clicked. And it was very easy to make because of the concept of the song.

What role does Long Island play in your music?

It definitely plays more of a role in that Long Island is a beach community and that’s why my music has a lot of summer vibes and warm, bright types of feelings. Long Island is almost like an underlying theme in my music because of that beachy nature.

How would you say our current times have influence your writing?

It has given me a lot more time! That’s for sure.

Has it been easy to find a light at the end of the tunnel?

It doesn’t really change much for me. I have a studio at home and do all my work there, so I am lucky that it didn’t really impact me that much.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I get a lot of inspiration from my life experiences and much of my upbringing. Being raised in a beach community and being exposed to hip hop and dance at an early age really spoke to me musically.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, this summer we are looking to do promo tour. Probably starting with the South East region, since that’s closer to my home in Atlanta and it’s also a big fan base for a lot of my streams.

What else is happening next in Nicky Bondz’s world?

I’m just keeping busy with school and getting my doctorate in Psychology. I’m working out and trying to stay fit. I just started a podcast and am going to be taping this blog and making a documentary out of that. So yes, for sure, there’s a lot going on and a lot to look forward to!
