American hip-hop super group duo Run the Jewels will release their long-awaited album, ‘Run the Jewels 4’ on 5 June 2020 via the Jewel Runners/BMG label.
‘Run the Jewels 4’ was predominantly recorded at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios and Electric Lady Studios in New York and has 11 tracks and a 40-minute runtime. The album features a diverse range of guest artists. Guests include rapper 2 Chainz on ‘Out of Sight’, Pharrell Williams and Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine on ‘Ju$t’; and Josh Homme (of Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age/Eagles of Death Metal) and gospel singer Mavis Staples on ‘Pulling the Pin’. The album also includes previously released songs ‘Yankee and the Brave (Ep 4)’, and ‘Ooh lah lah’, (featuring Greg Nice and DJ Premier), which were released in March 2020 to tease the album.
A 4 Year Hiatus
It’s been four years since the last release (‘Run the Jewels 3’) from El-P and Killer Mike. The iconic duo thanked their fans for their support and patience in a recent heart-felt note on the group’s website. “You are all appreciated,’ they wrote, saying they never imagined that Run the Jewels would become their whole world as it has.
In other news, Run the Jewels will be launching their own cannabis line in collaboration with rapper Berner, who is the founder of the successful Cookies strain. El-P recently appeared on ‘Cooked with Cannabis’, a Netflix show where contestants compete with their cannabis-infused meals for a $10 000 prize.
Run the Jewels was scheduled to open for Rage Against the Machine on their 2020 reunion tour. However, these dates have been put on the backburner due to the coronavirus pandemic, and people now prefer to stay home and play the online Bingo NZ has to offer instead. The duo launched a new line of t-shirts to raise money for their touring crew, who are unemployed as a result of the pandemic.
A Great Record To Date
The duo first worked together in 2012 when El-P (born Jaime Meline) acted as producer for Killer Mike (born Michael Santiago Render) on his solo album, ‘R.A.P. Music’. Shortly thereafter Mike featured on “Tougher Colder Killer”, a track from El-P’s 2012 album ‘Cancer 4 Cure.” The rappers decided to tour together following the near-simultaneous release of their albums.
Their critically acclaimed debut as Run the Jewels followed a year later, with a self-titled record. ‘Run the Jewels 2’ was released in 2014 to a similarly good reception, followed by ‘Run the Jewels 3’ in 2016 which cemented their popularity and put the odds in their favour.
Run the Jewels have been awarded a number of accolades from the UK Video Awards, the America Association of Independent Music (A2IM Libera) Awards and the NME Awards. They have been nominated for one Grammy, for ‘Chase Me’ a 2018 track by Danger Mouse also featuring Big Boi. Popular Run the Jewels songs include ‘Run the Jewels’; ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count to F***)’; ‘Crown’; ‘Talk to Me’, ‘Blockbuster Night Part 1’ and ‘Legend Has It’.
