22-year-old Ja’Kealon Amaru Chase, aka Amaru Son, is an interesting artist to talk about. His hit single “Lost & Found” has reached many listeners across the U.S. and has even made it’s way into the international marketplace. The song has accumulated over 5 Million on all streaming platforms.
Growing up in Kansas City, Missouri, Amaru was the quiet but energetic kid that loved to create. He was very imaginative when it came to toys, action figures, drawing, and coloring. His creative mindset is often reflected his musics cover artwork. Listening to 90’s r&b and hip-hop played had a huge impact on Amaru’s sound. Some of Amaru’s musical influences include Tech N9ne, Michael Jackson, Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne, Roy Woods, and The Weeknd among others. Listening to these artists shaped the way Amaru crafted his sound.
Amaru’s first experience in music came from joining his middle and high school choirs. Even though he didn’t seem like someone who would pursue music, he started to get the hang of it. His mom always wanted him to sing but Amaru didn’t have the confidence early on to do so.
Later on in Amaru Son’s career he began to choose sports over his musical talent because his family was very involved in sports. Despite his hot pursuit of high school athletics, Amaru couldn’t escape what he was meant to do. He started to realize maybe sports wasn’t for him.
In 2015 Amaru Son went to college at Missouri Southern State University for 1 semester and dropped out after deciding it wasn’t for him. In 2016, he came home feeling devastated about his decision. He quickly picked up a job gat Planet Fitness, but got fired from 2-3 months after coming home. This is when his cousin introduced him to other peers his age that made music. It was the beginning of something special for Amaru Son.
His new found friends started to pressure Amaru to make music with them. Despite turning down the offer multiple times, Amaru eventually saw the beauty in making music and becoming a performer.
In 2017, Amaru started started focusing more on his rap, singing, and writing abilities. In 2018, he made the decision to transform his sound to a more melodic style of music. However, 2019 is the year when everything started to change. He dropped a single called “Lost & Found” on SoundCloud and within a week, his song got added to one SoundCloud’s curated playlists called “Chill Trap”. His song was placed right next to other major artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Trippie Redd, Lil Yachty, A$AP Rocky, and Uno The Activist.
As an independent artist, Amaru has been able to establish himself in the underground scene. He has big plans for 2020 which included the release of his highly anticipated album “Sad Boy 2” and his newest single “Him & Him”. Already making moves, we expect Amaru Son to continue to get more recognition in the music industry.
