5 Ways to Blow Off Steam After a Hard Workday

Pent up energy is not a good thing. You don’t have to be a scientist to know that soon it will just explode outwards, and to make sure you do that in a safe (and fun) way, here’s a list of things you can do that will definitely make you feel better afterwards. Keep in mind this list isn’t for when you’re absolutely exhausted after a hard day at work and just become a blob on the couch. This is for when you’ve had your fists balled up all day and really need to let loose.

1. Working Out

Hitting the gym or even using your own exercise equipment at home doesn’t just take the edge off, it actually stuffs the edge into your muscles and makes them bigger. Whether you know the day is going to be crap as soon as you get up in the morning or whether it just gets worse and worse throughout the day, stopping off at the Good Life or Planet Fitness can re-route that energy through every stride, rep, or left hook (into a punching bag, that is).

Since a hard workday can really make your mind full of all sorts of things, doing any sort of exercise with a specific goal can really help you focus at the task at hand, even if it’s just lifting a weight ten times in a row,

You can even double the energy output, by putting in your earbuds and cranking up the volume to eleven to really immerse yourself in the moment (whether it’s some old-school Metallica, Daft Punk-like beats, or high energy hip-hop like Run The Jewels).

The sweat dripping off of you is just the liquid version of steam, after all, and you will definitely feel a lot more relaxed and better about yourself when you finally hit the showers.

2. Video Games

The video game industry has come along way from Mario stomping on his enemies. Now you can quickly enter in to a sci-fi fantasy world and slaughter monsters and demons in Doom and Doom:Eternal with crazy weapons and your own two fists. It can feel amazing as you rip and tear these bastards to pieces and you save humanity, but if you want actual other people to feel your wrath, then online multiplayer is the place to go.

The Call of Duty franchise on Playstation and Xbox is easily the best known First Person Shooter series out there, and if you want to run around and mow down other players from across the world with pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles and the ever-so-satisfying knife melee, this is the best place to do it.

If you want to get to first on the podium without it being soaked in your opponents blood, then Nintendo offers up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on its Switch console, where you can race people in cartoony cars and bikes on gravity-defying tracks. And if you think this is just lighthearted and silly, then you have no idea how triumphant it feels to knock out the leader with a red shell just before they were about to cross the finish line, snatching their victory and giving it to yourself.

3. Building Project

While the most natural reaction to being frustrated is to want to destroy something, turning that feeling on its head can really be helpful. Focusing on another task with all your mental and physical energy can be just what you need. And whether its something as practical as building a chair or shelf from Ikea, or something that is more like a hobby (a ship in a bottle, designing figurines), you’ll feel great that you are contributing something that will be useful or look great when you’re finally done. Plus there’s the satisfying feeling that you’ve done it all yourself.

4. Meditation

Yes, it might not be the first thing you think of when you just want to scream your head off, but in terms of taking it easy, putting things in perspective, and feeling better afterwards, fifteen minutes of meditation can really do wonders.

Make no mistake about it, meditation is just slow, deep breathing and focusing, and the only thing that stops it from working is your own skepticism. If you slow down the rhythm of your body, then you will slow down the anger and frustration you feel after a hard day so much that it doesn’t bother you any more.

If you sit in some comfortable clothing on the floor with your legs crossed, your back straight and your eyes closed, you’re good to start. Take a deep breath in through your mouth, hold it for a second or two, then slowly breathe out through your nose. And while you just have to get into a rhythm of that, thinking about anything else but your own life (a tree, a rock, the soap in your bathroom) and just focusing on that can really make a huge difference in forgetting about your problems even just for a little while.

5. Getting It On

Yes, it’s the obvious one, and it’s certainly easier to do if you have someone at home who is ready and willing (or know a booty call who can have you over at the last minute). If you don’t have a sex partner in your life or are just looking to get some sex no strings attached, check out some of the London escort reviews and take your pick. Just like number one our list, sex is definitely a good, sweaty exercise, with the added bonus of feeling pretty damn great at the end. And as you lie back in bed (or on the couch, or even in the backseat), you can’t deny that you feel a lot more relaxed after a long, hard workday.
