PREMIERE: Jana Herzen and Charnett Moffett Release Their Own Rendition Of Joni Mitchell’s classic ‘Both Sides Now’

On their upcoming jazz/folk acoustic duo album ‘Round the World’, acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist Jana Herzen and innovative, world-renowned bassist Charnett Moffett capture lightning in a bottle with a dreamy, sophisticated, smart and quirky mix of songs. On freshly imagined covers, from Men at Work to The Beatles to Kermit the Frog to Roberta Flack, plus originals by Herzen, the duo plays like creative partners who can finish each other’s musical sentences. ‘Round the World will be released digitally on July 3rd and via physical copy on July 17th on Motema. Vents Magazine is pleased to present the Exclusive Song Premiere of the duo’s cover of the Joni Mitchell classic ‘Both Sides Now’.

Herzen shared these thoughts with Vents: “On our upcoming album ‘Round the World, we’ve given a laid back swing/reggae feel to Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, the soulful folk classic about the illusory nature of love and life. Joni’s lyrics are sublime and her melody soars. No wonder over a hundred artists have chosen to record this song. First released by Judy Collins in 1968, just after the summer of love, and then by Joni on her 1969 album Clouds, Both Sides Now is just as fresh and relevant today as it was 50 years ago. I hope people enjoy our duo interpretation which respects the song’s folk roots and is performed in the spirit of jazz improvisation. What a treat it is to go on the adventure of this song with the great Charnett Moffett. It’s a profound experience every time.”
