Hi Malik, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve honestly been going a little crazy during this whole pandemic situation due to being a spiritual being. I’m sensitive to the frequencies around me, and it’s been driving me up the wall, but I’m trying to be strong-willed and stand solid.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I.W.M.H.B.”?

“I.W.M.H.B.”  is a song I made when I let some girl use my sweatshirt who lived in Ohio, and the plan was to send it back and forth, and she had it for about 5 months. I wanted it back and the first thing I started singing  was “I want my sweater back.”  It’s crazy because that was going to be the title of the song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Nope,  this was out of nowhere. Idea from me and my sweater.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the single?

Yeah it’s going to be quarantined themed, that’s all I’ll say to that. Haha.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing of this happened in a day or so, of course I had to do touch ups and revamps, but it was a full song the moment it was created.

What was it like to work with Keath Lowry and how did that relationship develop?

It was really fun working with Keath. Everything went real smooth and that’s typically our process. Having a good time and enjoying the session. That relationship came about because I worked at a coffee shop for a while.  He visited a few times, heard my voice then asked if I sang.  From there, he was my producer.

How much did he get to influence the song?

He’s a great engineer, producer and writer. We typically brainstorm together, or I’ll come in with the full idea that he’ll look over then we’ll talk about it. Because the song comes from my personal experience, it was mostly me lyrically, then Keath put his stank on it, musically.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Oh yeah if I’m not mistaken, this is the last single release for this EP, so I’m super excited about that.  After the single is released, the EP drops BOOM!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We have release dates and everything but due to the Corona situation, we had to postpone and switch around some things but everything is done and ready to drive. I can say that the title is Sparring Sessions.

What else is happening next in MalikOnMusik’s world?
