5 Misconceptions About CBD Oil And The Truth Behind It

For years now, studies have been conducted to determine the potential of CBD oil in treating common health ailments such as heart disease, depression, pain and anxiety. These health benefits have led to high demand for cannabidiol (CBD) oil and other products that contain CBD.

However, with so many marketing campaigns focusing on the advantages of CBD oil, there are also myths that get propagated alongside those benefits. This has resulted in misconceptions about what CBD oil can or cannot do. Below are common misconceptions pertaining to CBD oil that you are likely to come across and the truth behind them:

  • CBD Oil And THC Work The Same Way

A lot of people think that THC and CBD oil work in the same way, but this is far from the truth. Their differences start with the effects that the two compounds have on your endocannabinoid system. Serotonin receptors also absorb THC and CBD differently too, which means that each of these compounds will benefit your health in different ways.

They even provide relief for similar health conditions in dissimilar ways. That’s why you should not be surprised if your experience with CBD oil feels different when you switch from THC. But all this depends on how your body responds to the compounds – CBD oil can either be less or more effective than THC depending on your body chemistry.

  • CBD Oil Has No Psychoactive Effects

There is a misconception that CBD oil does not have any psychoactive effects with most people considering THC as the compound that has these effects. This is not entirely true. Both THC and CBD are psychoactive substances. However, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) demonstrates psychoactive effects that are more pronounced than CBD.

Once it enters the human body, CBD targets different areas. A good example of these are serotonin receptors that are linked to the central nervous system. By definition, a psychoactive substance is any substance that affects your brain and alters your perception of the world – whether that change is neutral, negative or positive. Many products, including caffeine and CBD oil, fall under this category.

  • CBD Oil Does Not Have Side Effects

More often than not, companies will only tell you about the benefits of CBD oil and not its side effects. The truth of the matter is that CBD oil does have side effects, especially when it is consumed in high doses.

One of the side effects of this product has to do with its interaction with some prescription medications like antiepileptics, chemotherapy drugs, warfarin and HIV antiviral drugs that carry warnings about grapefruit consumption. Taking very high doses of CBD oil can lower your appetite, result in tiredness and cause digestive changes.

In reality, most of these side effects can be reduced significantly by lowering your daily dosage. If you discuss your situation with the doctor but continue experiencing side effects when taking CBD oil, it is important that you pay attention to your body and lower your daily dose.

  • The Effects Of CBD Oil Can Be Felt Within Hours

Many people expect to experience the effects of CBD oil within a few hours of taking it. But, unlike THC that kicks in as soon as it reaches the brain, CBD oil reacts differently. In fact, you might feel nothing after consuming it and it may take a few weeks of daily intake before you begin to see changes.

If you want to know whether CBD oil is working for you, first define your reasons for taking it even before you begin consuming it. By doing this, you can keep track of your symptoms and you will be able to determine whether it is good for you over time.

  • CBD Oil Products Are the Same

While there are numerous CBD oil products in the market today and you can get more here, very little is known about the differences in their molecular composition. Most people think that all CBD is equal, and that all CBD oil products have the same properties and would therefore work the same way. But this is not the case. As a natural product, CBD oil is highly complex and contains a wide range of plant molecules besides cannabidiol.

Because the oil is extracted from different plants, the molecules in CBD oil products vary depending on the source. This means each product will affect your body differently. As such, you need to consider the source of CBD in a CBD product before making a purchase

Final Thoughts

Though CBD oil has been in the market for a few years now, most people still do not have enough information about it. This has created grounds for numerous misconceptions to thrive. The reality is that not everything you hear about CBD oil is true. Misconceptions such as the ones discussed above are easy to fall for because they appear too technical for the ordinary user. However, with a little vigilance, you will be able to distinguish CBD oil facts from myths.
