INTERVIEW: Nathalie Weddell

Welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi VENTS, thank you for having me! I have been great thank you. The unusual circumstances (aka covid-19) at the moment can get a bit challenging but I guess we’re all in the same boat. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe at VENTS :)!

Can you talk to us more about your single “Right Like This”

Yeh for sure. So ‘Right Like This’ was written a few months ago and is basically about finding love but then not being able to give enough of yourself, the sudden regret of not being there for that person and then hoping to make it up to them. I always find it a bit difficult to describe a feeling so excuse me if it’s a bit unclear. I do feel like this is a very relatable situation and I’ve definitely been in a situation like this before so it was a lot of fun creating it together with the producer of the track Reuben Isaac, who is amazing by the way!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I feel like everyone that has been in love will know that being in love just makes you experience so many different emotions on so many different levels. As a songwriter I really thrive and get inspired by these different emotions and I feel like I can relate to so many situations. This song is definitely based on true emotions. I hope people will be able to relate to it and get lost in the vibe just like I did while I was writing it.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

For this single I don’t have an official music video planned. However, I did have a very interesting collaboration with an amazing 3D animation artist Baris Varujan Kabalak (@kabalakbaris) who created a beautiful video post for my Instagram. I’m totally obsession with 3D animation so I’m super excited to explore this even more and possibly use it in an official music video for a next release.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording and writing process went pretty smooth. Everything was basically written and recorded in the same night. Me and the producer Reuben were working on the song at my place and then unexpectedly Reuben got a phone call saying we could use the studio. Lucky me because i was taken to a really cool studio in the heart of London in the Soho area.

Does the new single mean we can expect an album soon?

I would love to make an album, that’s literally my dream. Just the idea of creating a body of work that I can put all my creativity in. I actually came up with a concept for it and have all the ideas and moodboards ready to go. So yeh, you can definitely expect that from me in the near future. But before I do that though, I’m releasing a few more singles.

Any plans to hit the road?

I wish, but due to the current Corona virus circumstances it’s a bit difficult to plan gigs. I am however excited to hit the road and will definitely make that a reality once everything settles down and gets back to normal.

What else is happening next?

I’m not too sure actually, I’m just trying my hardest to be able to continue doing what I love. I will continue releasing singles for now and in the meantime work on my social media presence. You can find me on Instagram @nathalieweddell
