PREMIERE: Brooklyn’s ISTA Release New Music Video For “Spell It”

Kicking off another series of premieres we are going for something much vibrant, colorful and entertaining, you know, something refreshing for not only a Monday but the very grim days we are leaving in – ISTA has returned with a new music video for “Spell It,” a complete visual delight of colorful, often trippy animation that fits perfectly with catchy song that strongly resembles to many of the bands of the early 00s such as JET and The Hives.

About the song, the band comments As for the lyrics, I’d say the theme and message is pretty clear, haha. In its writing phase, I just wanted to convey a simple feeling with a simple tune along with a fun brain-teasy chorus to boot. With this in mind and heart, Spell it was born. In terms of composition, It went through 3 phases of arrangement. The first was a folky acoustic version, the second as a demo recorded with close friend and producer Tomas Dolas in which he helped arrange movements of the chorus guitars, funky bass musings as well as the pre chorus rhythm changes. Finally, our producer on the track, Sam Cohen, brought his magic to the table by helping us to lock in the performative elements with clarity and direction along with inspiring direction on the last bars of the psyched-out chorus outro. It was actually the first track we recorded with him.

In 2019, West coast psych-rock transplants ‘Ecstatic Union’ teamed up with Brooklyn based producer, Sam Cohen to begin recording what was planned to be their 3rd release under the same name. As the project developed, fresh sounds and styles emerged along with a new cast of characters who began blessing the tracks, ultimately joining forces beyond the studio to birth the electrifying 7 piece psychedelic-disco-soul-punk love child that is ISTA.
