Hi D, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Big up yourselves, I’ve been good, just enjoying life and making music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Baddest”?

This song was produced by the talented Jammin MC, he was actually producing the song live on Instagram, I messaged and told him he needed to send it to me ASAP,  and within the hour the track was finished.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Instrumentals tells me stories, when I first heard this track, I instantly had the story in my head.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

This video was actually filmed in Jamaica, due to the current Pandemic the UK is currently on lock down so I had to get the video shot in another country and thats why I’m not present in the video

How was the recording and writing process?

I have my own studio at home, and I’ve recorded everyone of my singles, so the process was easy for me, it took me an hour to complete.

What role does London play in your music?

Grime is what got me into music, Wiley was the first artist to book me for eskimo dance, doing pirate radio shows, on whoa fm and freeze fm with roll deep, flirta D, Bruza, Bearman and many more,  London is the birth of Doktor.

How does your Jamaican roots influences your writing?

I was born in Jamaica, I came to London in my teens, so the roots are embedded, I still have my Jamaican accent. Dancehall and reggae is what I grew up listening to.

As someone who tends to be very big on collaboration – what would you say has been the most important thing you’ve learned from these experiences?

Well collaborations gives you access to other artist fanbase, which is always a positive,  I’ve manage to do some big drum n bass tracks with sigma, friction and also EDM tracks with flux pavilion, Steve Aoki and Dj Chuckie.  I’ve managed to gain support from many different genre of music.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

I work on vibes, if a track is sent to me and I’m not feeling the vibes, I wont do it.  it doesn’t matter about the name of the artist, its all about the vibe and the story that track is giving me.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

New Material is ready, video is ready, I always like to be 6 weeks ahead.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

New Single is called “BOOMBASTIC’ to be released within a few weeks from now.

Any plans to hit the road?

After the Lock down 100000%

What else is happening next in Doktor’s world?

Currently completing my album, the hope was to release this year summer, but this will definitely be pushed back.
