In this interview Paulius Stankevicius will give tips on branding your business during bearish markets as well as other interesting marketing insights.
Interviewer: As branding expert for global companies what is your opinion on how to keep business positive in bearish markets?
Paulius Stankevicius: First important thing to consider is crisis management. Regardless how low markets fall, a brand should always stay strong and positive and this is mainly done through the public relations department which manages all the media relations. By showing to the public that your company is active and responsive to bearish markets, it proves to investors and clients the strength of the company.
Interviewer: What are the top things you would recommend growing companies to implement from a marketing perspective?
Paulius Stankevicius: Public relations (PR) as a priority as public image of the company matters the most. Invest in advertising online and offline as advertising shows the strength of the company.
I would say that if you are going after influence – numbers do not always matter. You cannot put statistics on public relations. If you are going for affordable budget solutions, advertising based on data is your answer.
However, I would still prefer to boost international media relations in collaboration with the business development department. Utilizing media with business development can be an extremely influential strategy when going for international client acquisitions.
Interviewer: What is your favorite marketing tool?
Paulius Stankevicius: My favorite marketing tool used to be LinkedIn for a long time, but now I prefer my own company’s developed media platform, Stankevicius Interactive Media, for stronger media relation establishment. Eventually, we built something that we can use by ourselves.
Interviewer: What was the most difficult marketing challenge you have ever had?
Paulius Stankevicius: I had a client wanting to raise over 1 billion dollars in a very short period of time. Obviously, the challenge was very difficult. My company raised over 500 million dollars in a period of 12 months in 2018, and yet it was a combination for a large number of clients, I think it was over 200 clients. However, this one client in particular wanted to raise 1 billion dollars for himself, but considering the current market situation in 2020 and also 2019, markets are not so easily giving money away. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed in raising 1 billion dollars, but it was a very interesting journey, full of new learnings.
Interviewer: How do you see Stankevicius MGM advancing through 2020?
Paulius Stankevicius: Stankevicius MGM is not a typical marketing firm which you see nowadays. Our focus and our management is very different than regular. We look at very different things in comparison to other marketing companies, and we also work with specific clients who understand those special things. In our company’s culture, data and analytics is not everything, we go for rather logical and rational thinking. As we mainly work in the public relations sector we rarely apply data and analytics, instead, we follow the latest industry events, see what is happening in the world, connect the world’s events with our PR campaigns by finding specific entry points to when and where. Obviously, we do advertising and paid media as well which is all about analytics but that is only a small part of our business model.
Interviewer: What is your interest and plan for doing business in China?
Paulius Stankevicius: China is a big and interesting market, and we are always looking at it. We already work with many Chinese firms in terms of buying Chinese consulting services when pushing our customers into Chinese market, however we are also looking to bring Chinese companies out of China into Europe and the US.
