Hi Amy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m doing okay, my dog is keeping me sane right now.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Doin’ It Right”?

It’s my first official song as a solo artist, and the first song I ever produced.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wrote it in the midst of an existential 30-something crisis… unsure of where I was going or what I was doing in life, calling my mom like an angsty teenager, knowing I wanted to make music but not knowing how to go about it.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Maybe a live version in my apartment.

The single comes off your new album Solitude – what’s the story behind the title?

A lyric off my EP is “Solitude’s a blessing.” Turned out to be a fitting title with everything going on in the world right now.

How was the recording and writing process?

The process was awesome and daunting because I was literally teaching myself production as I wrote and recorded. Lots of going back and forth from my laptop for lyrics, then keyboard and microphone to record, then back to more YouTube tutorials to figure something out in my DAW or learn how to create a certain effect.

What role does NYC play in your music?

Such a huge role, so I’ll trace it to Madonna. She was so influenced by NYC in the 80s. Now people like me make pop music that’s so heavily inspired by her being so inspired by NYC!

How has Prince and Robyn influenced your writing?

They are everything. There’s nothing I write that isn’t somehow influenced by them, whether it’s a playful lyrical nod or big sexy snare sound.

What aspect of your own personal life did you get to explore on this record?

Oh, just years of anxiety and co-dependence!

What else is happening next in Amy Rage’s world?

Writing lyrics, recording, singing, producing, releasing more music. I’m really excited to dip my toes into the NYC music scene and meet other pop artists here. Once the apocalypse is over.
