1) Hi Jaylin, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi thank you so much for featuring me. I’ve been amazing, you know, besides being bored in quarantine.
2) How were you drawn into the world of acting?
I was drawn into the world of acting mainly because my oldest sister started when she was about two months old and then my mom pulled in the other four kids and we kind of just went from there; but I started to love it and knew it’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
3) How would you say our small roles on TV has helped you chop your acting skills?
Having small roles like guest-starring on TV shows gives you a taste of what that type of acting is like. I had a guest-starring role on Disney Channel for “Coop and Cami Ask The World,” and it showed me what working for Disney was like without having to sign a contract.
4) After some good roles on mostly kids shows, you are now heading into much more adult ground like “Snowpiercer.” What was the audition process like?
I would say the audition process is way scarier than being on set. But with “Snowpiercer” it wasn’t. At first I auditioned for the pilot and didn’t get the role, but a year or two later I got a casting call for a show called “Snowpiercer” and we only knew about the movie (they didn’t mention the name for the pilot casting). So I did the self-tape, then got called to come in do the audition again, then got another callback, this time with the director in the room. After I finished, I told the director that I can do an amazing British accent (because he’s British) and he said “we’ll see.” I had suspicions he meant see you on set. To my surprise I booked it!
5) Were you familiar with the movie or the comic book?
I was way more familiar with the movie and didn’t even know there was a graphic novel.
6) Did you get to study and do more research on the movie or the comics?
I re-watched the movie to understand what the tailies were like and how they lived. The graphic novels were too long and didn’t give any information on the tail section.
7) Playing Daveed Diggs’ son, did you get to build up a better relationship with him than with anyone else there?
I don’t think my character gave me a better relationship with Daveed because we all had equal relationships with each other on set.
8) What would call the most challenging aspect of playing ‘Miles?’
The most challenging aspect of playing Miles is getting into the mind of someone who’s lost both of his parents but barely remembers them and has new parents who he looks up to.
9) When and where can people catch the show?
You can catch the show on TNT at 9 pm ET, May 17th.
10) What else is happening next in Jaylin Fletcher’s world?
I am on another show called “Clickbait” that will be on Netflix in 2021, so stay tuned!
