ONCE VV programming will be launching with some free streaming content but they are asking that if folks who feel able to, donate to the artists participating and to ONCE GoFundMe campaign as the need to raise more funds is ever present. ONCE closed their doors on March 12th, and many of the donations raised have already been dispersed between staff members. Moving forward, they plan to allocate a percentage of fundraising to contribute to operating costs, as no one knows when they will reopen but they want to ensure that it will happen! The hope is that the ONCE VV will keep things rolling as the venue until that happens.
In order to see this project into reality they have amassed a small group of devoted volunteers who want badly for the independent and woman owned venue to stay afloat during the COVID19 crisis. Their badass production team consists of Stephen Loverme of local band, SEA, James McElhiney, music fan and tech extraordinaire. Logistics and booking are being organized by Bridget Duggan, ONCE’s booking manager and marketing content and branding is coming from NEU student and ONCE intern, Erin Solomon, with fearless leadership by owner and muse, JJ Gonson.
Gonson describes the nature and beauty of the connection of music venues to their musicians and patrons best in a recent piece on ArtsFuse; “We call ourselves independent, but what we are is interdependent. Performance is art. Art soothes and nurtures us. It makes us happy.” ONCE VV will work hard to add a warmth and hospitality to the livestream by evoking the hominess and cozy hospitality they are known for and will continue to keep the ONCE name tied to diverse and quality programming as they frontier the wild west of an online “virtual venue”.
