Today, the Canadian singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist known as BADCHILD unveils the tormented music video for his song “Behave” with Capitol Records stateside alongside 21 Entertainment and Universal Music Canada and Virgin Records in the UK. The “Behave” video cast is made up of BADCHILD fans who responded to a casting call on socials earlier this year. “Behave” was previously released alongside the track “Candy” as a couplet titled I, which is the first installment of a series of new music to come over the course of this year. “Candy,” was included on the original soundtrack for the Netflix film To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.
Reflecting on the track and the idea behind creating the visual BADCHILD explains, “Behave” at its core is about discipline and wanting to break out of the shackles of a desperate life. The visual is a play on the oppressive nature of the chorus. Rene Gibson (The Director) and I wanted to create something cold and bleak, very Orwellian or something the Wachowski’s would admire. We did a fan casting and it was an incredible response we had people drive from all over. Some made more than 20-hour drives from places in the states to be in our production. That’s the kind of thing you can’t make up, it really makes it worth it to feel that love from the fan base.
Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, BADCHILD continues to release new music including an homage to the late Bill Withers with his rendition of “Hope She’ll Be Happier”, listen here. BADCHILD then teamed up with fellow Canadians Justin Bieber, Geddy Lee, Avril Lavigne, Walk Off The Earth and many more on another Bill Withers cover of the classic “Lean On Me” as the broadcast event Stronger Together Tous Ensemble last Sunday April 26. The cover was released following the show on all streaming platforms with all proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross. Listen to the “Lean On Me” cover here.
BADCHILD’s eccentric music and unique vision landed him on the festival circuit last summer playing some of the world’s most prestigious line ups including; Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Osheaga. Earlier this year, BADCHILD was gearing up to join grandson and NoMBe as support for concerts across North America. Both tours have been postponed in light of the global situation.
