INTERVIEW: FASO

Hi Faso, How have you been?:

I have been doing very good, thanks for asking. I have just been trying to stay busy and sane during this quarantine that we are all in at the moment. I have been trying to create as much as possible during this time too so hopefully some good new music will come out of this.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Glitter”?:

Glitter is a new song of mine that shows a completely new and different side of Faso as an artist that I hope connects to a lot of new listeners. I have never tried to make a song with the disco kind of theme so I was excited to test my range of genres and challenge my abilities as an engineer as well. I am very proud of the sound that I have accomplished with this track and hope it can spread throughout the rest of my future work.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?:

Nothing in particular. The meaning is more of a fantasy of my future self in the spotlight, interacting with fans while also balancing a love life on top of it all. From the moment I wrote it, I felt a part of a story, so I tried to create a fictional story utilizing non-fictional moments about my life.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the single?:

Yes! We have to wait until the world fixes itself for us to get back to production for the video. We have already started filming some shots in a secret location that has to do with the theme of the song, so I am excited to share it with all my listeners.

How was the recording and writing process?:

The day I wrote this song was such an important memorable time for me. It was after our friend DJ Treehaus’ set at a day pool downtown so the mood was perfect. I was originally under some psychedelic influences which opened up a new sound for me when I hear the funk beat. With this line of work nothing is ever pretty all the way through, and Glitter was one of these challenges for me which led to an eight month process of demos and mixes. I was finally able to settle on a final version of the song that made me feel like this was one of my best works of art.

Did you always intend to go for a disco direction with this track?:

The beat automatically influenced the disco sound, so I think it was pre-destined to happen from the moment I heard it. I came across the beat on Youtube from a producer by the name of River Beats and from the second I heard it I knew it could be something special for me to show my range of genres.

What is it about the 70s that you find so fascinating?:

I couldn’t pinpoint it on one thing, but just the free, loose, happy energy that people radiated back then intrigues me. The colors, the shape of things,  I could literally break it down to so many different things but I’ve always been inspired by that retro, nostalgic vibe. I just know I belong in that time, which is why I’m bringing funk back with this track and some other releases coming up.

What role does Las Vegas play in your music?:

My roots are here and this is where I learned to be myself, so I always appreciate Vegas for that. As of now I don’t see much of a connection between me and the city musically, but we will see if that changes soon.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?:

Definitely. I’ve got the whole summer ready with scheduled release dates and other content as well. I’ve got a plan to show off my singing, but then bring back a few of my rap sounds to give a balance. I am hopefully trying to collaborate with more fellow artists this year too.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I do have some dates set up for releases, but no sneak peaks on any dates or titles though. I like to keep the anticipation high for my listeners when my new music comes out.

What else is happening next in FASO’s world?

Faso’s world is an ever moving place, and to be honest half the time I don’t even know what I’m doing next, so who knows what’s to come. I keep a close watch on my personal goals and take the necessary steps to prepare myself, but at the end of the day my life feels like a movie most of the time so I’m trying to take it all in along the way.
