How Long Does it Take for Hair to Grow? A Simple Guide

Have you recently had a dreadful haircut that you desperately need to grow out?

You’re not alone. We’ve all been sitting in the chair, wondering what just happened as the hairdresser unveils your mangled hair in the mirror. You have to be polite, but inside, there’s a storm of emotion brewing.

There’s no doubt that the days after a rough haircut are anxious ones. All you can think is, “how long does it take for hair to grow?”, so you can get back to the good old days when your hair looked like your hair.

That’s what we’re going to discuss today. Everyone’s a little bit different, but we can help give you an idea of when your hair will grow out so you can relax and go shopping for hats.

How Long Does It Take for Hair to Grow?

We’re sad to report that hair only grows about half an inch per month, which only gives you about 5 inches in a year. Everyone’s a little bit different, though, so you don’t have to panic about your bad hair ruining your life for the next year.

There are different factors that affect how quickly your locks grow. Some of them you can control and many of them you can’t. Let’s take a look at a few of them so that you can give yourself a chance to get back to normal.

Factors That Affect Hair

Let’s start with the things you can’t change. Your age, ethnicity, hair color, and genetics all play a role in how your hair pops out of your head.

Hair has a lifespan, which is determined by your genetics. The anagen phase is the active hair growth phase, followed by the catagen (when it stops growing) and telogen (when it prepares to fall out) phases. The anagen phase shortens as you age.

There are big differences in the hair follicle shapes of different ethnicities. And, hair color determines how much hair you have on your head, but not necessarily how fast it grows.

There are some measures you can take to promote or decrease hair growth.

Females that use a lot of products and devices that are harmful to their hair can actually stunt hair growth. The more natural oils you have, the healthier your hair is and the faster it’ll grow. Some people think climate affects this, but it’s actually hormonal.

Vitamins and nutrients that come from a healthy diet can improve hair growth. Protein, vitamin C, biotin, and iron are all helpful for hair growth. Hair growth supplements usually include some combination of the above ingredients. Check out this SugarBearHair review to read more on hair growth products.
