Instagram Influencer and Tech Entrepreneur Rigel Gemini has revealed a hot new music video for his debut single “I Can’t” and its experimental stay-at-home production is ready to slay. With over 40k Spotify streams in the first week, Gemini’s infectious acid-house vibe has been a fast favorite, his sassy lyrics and smart delivery deeming the song well on its way to becoming a queer club anthem with the help of songwriter TIAAN and producer Ford. Now, with RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Alyssa Edwards and Gia Gunn, a colorful crew of artists, entertainers, fashionable YouTubers and influencers from all over the country, “I Can’t” has taken on a robust life of its own!
When original plans were thwarted by COVID-19, a virtual party was enthusiastically embraced by the impressive cast. Executed flawlessly by art director and husband, collage artist Cameron Lee, Rigel Gemini’s adaptable exuberant spirit showcases his talents amongst the individuals who partook in this unforgettable quarantine soiree. Kandi Buress’ choreographer Victor Jackson lent to the group movement, split-screening and gallery-viewing towards a harmonious at-home club that harkens to early 2000’s pop. “I Can’t” celebrates community during a period of uncertainty.
Gemini’s lyric video, released on April 17th, ad-libs a tale of a night on the town. “Steppin’ out with my squad, I’m that b*tch, I’m the boss,” Gemini, glitter-lipped and in-charge, peacocks into an unfavorable nightlife spot, a narrative that may not mirror the situation of today yet echoes the intensity of an uncomfortable situation regardless. Those who joined Gemini in his virtual disco house party lip sync and dance with glee; no disconnect is seen between the original storyline and the current COVID-19 culture. “I Can’t” will stay stuck in one’s head, no matter the season or circumstance. The video premiered on April 23rd via Gay Times.
