Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Great thanks! Keeping ourselves creatively busy whilst in lockdown.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Dreamer”?
It originated from a solo project of Stuart’s, Pete had the vocal hook for the chorus immediately and the rest came together from there!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Dreamer is about not wanting to live the day to day grind of simple life and encouraging ourselves to chase that dream!
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
Pete wanted to think outside the box for this video as he films and edits everything himself and he often likes a challenge! It took a few days to get the idea how we wanted it but we are pleased with how it came out. Go watch it here (https://lnk.to/DoB2Bv?fbclid=IwAR0jIymv8upBqdO-LgcZveDcri_5lKkxmk6Tr1ciRD6v53A1VtOu5vJy3x4)
The single comes off your new album L.U.S.T. – what’s the story behind the title?
L.U.S.T stands for “Loss. Us. Sins. Trust” which are four things that go hand in hand with mental health which affects us all at one point in our lives and we felt that was an interesting thing to write about.
How was the recording and writing process?
Stuart handles all of the recording from the home studio and then we pass everything on to our good friend Rhys May (Bring Me The Horizon, Don Broco, While She Sleeps) who does some more pre-production and the mixing of all the tracks. We are always really excited when we have passed a track on to him as they always come back sounding killer!
What role does Kent play in your music?
The music scene in Kent is incredibly varied and we are excited to see what else other counties have to offer.
How has Bring Me The Horizon and The 1975 influenced your writing?
For BMTH the diversity of their sound in recent years has been a big influence such as the addition of sampling and synths to their songs. As for the 1975 we take inspiration from their clean, mellow guitar sounds and song craft.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Each song has some kind of personal connection to us, Pete in his previous band was the lead vocalist so he has some experience already in being able to come up with lyrics that mean something to him and also to listeners, we really enjoyed the writing process in this band as we really vibed off of the great tunes!
Any plans to hit the road when the current situation is over?
Absolutely! We had a few shows planned before all of this stuff kicked in, but of course we are now going to have to wait it out and hope that our album release is not overly affected by all of the goings on!
What else is happening next in Dohny Jep’s world?
Pete is currently editing the next music video and we are all writing our parts for some new demo’s for the follow up release seeing as we are in lockdown…What else is there to do hey!
