Southern California songwriter and visual artist Leo Lauren announces the release of his debut single “Supernormal,” available now on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and most digital service providers. “Supernormal” will be included on the rising artist’s EP of the same name, with further details to be revealed in late April.
Though “Supernormal” marks Lauren’s first foray as a professional recording artist, he is no stranger to songwriting, and has carefully crafted a distinct sonic and visual style. As an artist who works in painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, video, and hand-stitched garbs, Lauren further stands out from other creatives with his generationally fluid style and mixed-media arts practice – all which inform the nuanced songwriting, lyricism, and performance of “Supernormal.” His music tastefully synthesizes pop, funk, goth, soul, heavy metal, and alternative rock to form his own unique and dynamic sound.
About the song, Lauren comments “Supernormal is a term I first started working with in drawings a few years back. I found its oxymoronic quality perfect for describing an experience of hope, aspiration, and boundlessness continually checked by the pragmatic limitations of daily life and disappointments of circumstance. It represents a tug-of-war between perceived moments of greatness and the brutally boring letdowns of normality and loneliness which inevitably follow. Supernormal is not a solution to this condition, but a purely physical catharsis; a temporary relief from its pressure.”
