Today we are pleased to join forces with The Matinee for the premiere of their new lyric video for “Ain’t No One Like You,” a laid back song that takes the best of the band’s influences and sooths you in with its very minimalistic approach to the music that will certainly ease you down in this desperate times.
About the song, the band comments “Can you recall meeting people the old fashioned way; Face to face? It seems like so long ago. You might have found yourself a long distance lover – especially in the here and now. Whether you are lucky enough to have someone close by or are picking up that phone a little more often to hear a comforting voice, there has really never been a better time to hold them dearly, and tell them ‘there ain’t no-one like you.'”
Hailing from the West coast rainforests of Vancouver, it’s been over a decade since singer Matt Layzell and guitarist Matt Rose spent a few hazy days writing songs in a rustic cabin in Desolation Sound on British Columbia’s wild Sunshine Coast. Since then, the road-worn band – who were high school cohorts before their musical paths intertwined – also includes drummer Pete Lemon, guitarist Geoff Petrie, bassist Marcus Abramzik, and keyboardist Georges Couling.
The Matinée’s sound has always felt more Southern, drawing off influences ranging from The Tedeschi Trucks Band to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. In the decade since they first formed, they evolved from its humble origins, navigating their own route to become a powerhouse roots-rock band with a following spread across North America, playing anywhere from Air Force bases to prisons… and everywhere in between.
