How have you been?
I’ve been good. Spending time in Colorado lately, and working on new music.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Venus”?
Venus is a love song about making decisions that create a distance between ourselves and the ones we love.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Last summer I spent a lot of time with my daughters. During this time my daughter Maelynn and I started jamming acoustic guitars together. One of the riffs we were jamming stuck with me. I couldn’t stop playing it even after summer was over. But it felt empty because I missed playing it with her. So I decided to make it a song about how time is spent better with the ones we love.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes. However, the original video idea I had planned has been scrapped. It was going to be shot this spring and released this summer. But, due to the recent shift in how we are able to conduct our lives because of the coronavirus pandemic; plans have changed. Instead, I will be releasing something much less complex than I was initially aiming for. Keep an eye out for the video in about a month or two.
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording process was fun. The band and I have played the song many times live, so that when it came to laying it down in the studio; everyone was prepared and able to knock it out efficiently. Audio was recorded at Cafe Solo Studios in Denton, TX.
The writing process was very personal. But it’s always fun to take a personal feeling and word it in a way that can be interpreted openly for anybody missing anybody.
What role does Texas play in your music?
I have always felt at home in Texas, so I have always felt extra comfortable expressing myself while writing and performing in TX. Because of that, I am able to connect with more of who I am deep down. I believe this vulnerability is reflected in my music. Because of this, I love and appreciate Texas more so than all of the other places I’ve lived throughout the country. I consider Texas my home at heart.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I’m working on another single to release this summer. I am also aiming to release a full length album in 2021.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Like many other things around the world, it depends on how the pandemic timeline unfolds. As for the title…
What aspect of your own personal life will you get to explore on this record?
I intend to explore some deeper parts of my imagination.
What else is happening next in Henry The Archer’s world?
Continuing to share my perspective through music. Also, making a daily conscious effort to be kind, patient, forgiving, grateful, and loving to those I interface with throughout each day.
