Hi Shah, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hello a pleasure to talk with you today. I’ve been doing well with the current events that are transpiring, I’m glad I am practicing social distancing and remaining at home. I have a home studio so I’ve been working on music during these times.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Kappin”?
My new single Kappin’ is available on all streaming platforms. It describes the popular phrase used down here in the South which is “cap.” It’s basically another word for lying and I give my overall perspective on people that be cappin’ in this song. The song dropped March 6th, 2020.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Mainly my environment really motivated me to make this song. I notice a lot of people in my local area just lying about stuff as I say in the song “All that fake jewelry, all them fake clothes, all them fake girls.” These just a few things people be cappin about the fake jewelry we know you bought on Amazon, the fake clothes we know all that designer you got on is fake, and the girls you claim you got but you really don’t have and in the song, I use a “that’s cap” ad-lib to emphasize that.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Definitely, when the song begins to gain more traction I’ll definitely drop a music video for it in the future.
How was the recording and writing process?
So the first thing I do is listen to the beat then I just kind of freestyle the hook and come up with the topic of the song. So when I first heard the beat the hook kind of came naturally, then I freestyle the first bar of each verse and then write everything else in and that’s what I usually do with all of my rap songs.
What role does Atlanta play in your music?
This is a place I call home, I would say it is an amazing place to be for coming up as an artist. The people out here are amazing and will actually support you and want to see you win in the industry, we all kinda just support one another and wanna see each other thrive and succeed in Atlanta. I would say Atlanta plays a huge role for me creatively as an artist and definitely plays a role in a song like Kappin.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Definitely, I’m working on a lot of new music, and content for my fans. I’m currently working on building up my presence on TikTok so they can start doing the Kappin challenge I have up and running. The next thing I am doing is dropping my freestyle.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The title I have planned is “Shah 2020 Freestyle” and I plan to release in about a week or two.
Any plans to hit the road?
With everything that is going on and them limiting social gatherings to ten people I would say no as of now but I love performing live its one of my favorite things to do in music because you actually get to feel the energy and see how the fans really enjoy listening to your music, it’s always good vibes. In the future, I definitely plan on going on tour for sure.
What else is happening next in Shah LVL’s world?
Right now I’m just getting ready to drop my freestyle and then re-drop one of my fan favorites and my favorite song I ever made which is called “Time.” So I’m excited about what’s in store for the future, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to talk with you guys today so I just want to say thank you.
