INTERVIEW: R&B Singer Joshua Benoit

Vents Magazine: Hi Joshua, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Joshua Benoit: I’ve been great!! Staying in and trying to make the best out of this worldwide pandemic. Thank you Vents for taking the time to interview me.

Vents: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Wet”?

Joshua: Yes, Wet is a fun steamy record. I used a light beat with some catchy high notes right before the chorus. I really enjoyed doing this record. I was going to release it closer towards the summer, but since we are all on quarantine… I figured it would be perfect timing!!

Vents: Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Joshua: Not a particular event, but I wanted it to be in the same realm as my last single “Legs in the Air;” sexy and more upbeat then the previous record.

Vents: Any plans to release a video for the single?

Joshua: We are definitely shooting a music video for Wet. We already have some music video treatments in mind!! Depending how this quarantine pans out, we are aiming on releasing the music video in the summer!

Vents: How was the recording and writing process?

Joshua: The recording process was great!! I went back a couple of times switching things around, by adding and taking parts away. So definitely time consuming, but when creating art/music I think it is best to leave the studio, listen to the record all day before making a final decision. It was co-written by Danny Phargo, we wanted to take the same approach as “legs in the air” but just more of an upbeat tempo with Wet. He is a beast with the pen, so the writing process wasn’t hard at all.

Vents: With the great reception from your previous work – do you feel any pressure as you put on a new material or rather the opposite?

Joshua: As I am getting more comfortable in the music industry, I feel there is more pressure to continue to top my past work. I feel I should always be elevating and topping the last project!! So, I welcome the pressure and I am willing to continue to outdo myself each and every project.

Vents: Speaking of previous work, having done acting and modelling – how would you say these background influence and help you with your music?

Joshua: I’ve worked with an acting coach for a while in the past, which I believe that will help once it comes to do live performances  (which I haven’t done yet) and the modeling helps because it’s keeps my visuals and brand fresh!! And the content on point.

Vents: What have you learned from these experiences working with someone else?

Joshua: Definitely!! This time being an isolation at home… I’m definitely working on another project. I have about 3-4 songs, so may drop an EP. I’ll make that decision once the recording studio opens back up.

Vents: Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Joshua: I’ve always been a team player, so working with others has always been easy and simple.

Vents: Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Joshua: I would aim for late May early June. This is all contingent on when the recording studios open back up!!

Vents: How has these time with the pandemic have gotten to influence the writing on the record?

Joshua: Quarantine has definitely helped with giving me more time to create new material. Time that I didn’t have prior to the pandemic.

Vents: Any plans to hit the road?

Joshua: The downside is that the team and I planned to be doing live performances at this time, but hopefully once things can clear up… we can hit the road!!

Vents: What else is happening next in Joshua Benoit’s world?

Joshua: I plan on dropping a lot of material this year, touring and music videos, building a brand and a name for myself in the music industry!!
