Million Square have just released their new EP ‘Spirit Bloom’. An exciting young London-based electronic duo, Million Square features double-bassist Max Luthert and saxophonist Duncan Eagles, who citing influences as diverse as Autechre and John Coltrane, expertly blend the sounds of acoustic and electronic instruments.
Taken from the EP, you can listen to their single ‘First Block’here which showcases their unique style of modular synthesisers, triggers and live manipulation of acoustic sounds, ‘Max from the band continues, “I wanted this piece to have a tense, quick and high energy feel without overwhelming the listener. “
As one of the premiere bassists of his generation in the UK, Max Luthert is already becoming well-known for his distinctive bass sound and approach to improvisation. Over the past couple of years Max has been performing around the world with artists such as Zara McFarlane, Moses Boyd, Ralph Wyld and Gabriel Zuker.
Duncan Eagles has been described as one of the most exciting tenor saxophonists (Marlbank) to recently appear on the UK scene and has also been performing internationally with Melt Yourself Down, Shabaka Hutchings, Gary Husband & Zara McFarlane.
