Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lifetime”?
Yes Lifetime is a collaboration with the talented DJ duo Zonderling and the incredible Josh Cumbee released on Armada Records.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes Josh and I both brought very personal experiences to the table for this one. For me it was about the birth of my beautiful daughter and my marriage to my wife.
How would you say this track in particular serves as the actual introduction for you in front of the scene?
I also had singles out last year with Gattuso and Morgan Page that both went top 10 on the dance radio charts so it was a combination of all these that bring me into the forefront as an artist and DJ.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
The video is out! Please check it out. It’s very heartwarming.
How was the recording and writing process?
Josh Cumbee and I started the song at his studio in LA. Those demo vocals stayed on the record. We then sent the stems to Zonderling and they brought a magic production to the single that was undeniable.
How does LA influence your work?
The weather here makes it really inspiring but it’s so beautiful sometimes it makes you wanna just stay at home and lay out by the pool!
Known for working with so many great talents – what have you learned from these particular experiences?
Every experience is different and unique. It’s given me a lot of insight into why people succeed and fail. My journey has been so crazy and I am just getting started. Traveling the world has really expanded my views and genuinely influences my music everyday.
Does your approach tend to change when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own original work?
Absolutely. When I am working with an artist I have to figure out how to get IN to their heads to understand what they want to convey as an artist. When it’s for me I have to figure out how to get OUT of my own head!
Both when it comes to your original work and your collaborations, they have released such a big reception – does that put any pressure on you as you work on a new material or rather the opposite?
It inspires me. My biggest competition is myself. I am always striving to achieve more at every step of success I ascend.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes I am very excited for my new single “Under Your Control” Dave Winnel & Damon Sharpe feat. Shannon dropping March 27 on Armada Records. Lots more coming second quarter as well!
Any plans to hit the road?
I am hopefully creating a demand with these singles 😉
What else is happening next in Damon Sharpe’s world?
More music! Shows! A TV project in development! Sky is the limit! Let’s go people!
