iPhone Says “No” To Villains Using Their Products On Film

We’re living in some odd times. From politics to our daily social life, things just keep changing for the better or for the worse. This has escalated to the corporate world where it was recently revealed on an interview with Knives Out director Rian Johnson that Apple told him none of the villains on the film could actually be shown using an iPhone nor any of their products.

Brand Protection

Art has served as a way of communication for years now. From painting to photography, the visual arts have evolve throughout the years, helping their creators to promote their views. For us, audience, in a well done product and through some great marketing, a TV spot or a still image is capable of influencing or reinforcing our decision or view in someone or something.

With this notion in mind, it makes all the sense of the world Apple wouldn’t like to be associated with terrorists or villains, especially considering our current political climate. This is what many will call “brand protection,” which is basically keeping safe the public view on a product or a company.

Maybe you or I could care less about what a person is using, but there’s a certainty that there are people that may not dare to drive a VW, because Hitler and many evil groups have been known for driving it. Or let’s say today, the jihadists were around telling people how much they use and love Android smartphones or products, you can bet Google and co. will get hurt really bad. Those are just some random example, but one that quickly gives you an idea of what I mean.

Is It Really Necessary?

Like its been explained, most of the bad reception will eventually depend on the audience themselves and how much they are willing to judge a product based on their users.

I’m sure just like a villain on a movie may use an iPhone to wreak havoc on the world, there might be really kind-hearted people that uses the product to do some good and as a nice tool to maybe save some lives.

By the end we should ourselves don’t let our bias take the best out of us and judge things in a much general and open-minded way, taking in consideration the PROs and CONs and weighting together and that will help us come with a better perspective and a much better decision.
