Animals usually hibernate during winters. Humans don’t go to that extreme but they also spend more time indoors. It is the most inactive season when it comes to physical activities. You may not be able to go out for jogging due to the snow, let alone swim in the pool. It becomes increasingly difficult to find the motivation to exercise. That doesn’t mean you can’t lead a healthy lifestyle.
Jack DeBrabander, one of the most popular celebrity fitness trainers, outlines a few helpful strategies to keep you in good shape during the cold winter months.
Eat seasonal veggies and fruits
Winter is the time when you get tons of delicious seasonal veggies and fruits. You can use them in your recipes to make your meals more flavorful without adding too many calories. Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, etc. are all excellent vegetables that flourish during winters. You can make a wholesome vegetable soup and drink it twice a day. Jack believes if you can continue to drink this type of soup throughout winter, you may not need to go out and exercise.
Drink tea instead of coffee
Coffee usually demands a spoonful of sugar. Jack doesn’t approve coffee with sugar at all. You can drink a cup of black coffee in the morning to feel energized but don’t add milk and sugar in it. For the rest of the day, you can drink green tea. It is the perfect beverage to help lose weight. Green tea has antioxidant properties that not only assist in weight loss but also keep heart diseases away.
Include more spices in your meals
Jack has a special soup recipe which he calls the Jack Estes DeBrabander cauliflower soup. This soup contains almost every type of seasonal veggies you can think of. From cauliflowers to snow peas, he includes everything in small portions. To make the soup tastier, he adds a lot of spices, such as cilantro, garlic, ginger, and turmeric. All these spices have various health benefits, such as combating inflammation and aiding in weight loss.
Jack also has a non-vegetarian soup recipe for all those who can’t skip their daily meat. You can include shredded chicken and use chicken stock instead of water for the above recipe. But don’t take out any vegetables from the list. Garnish the soup with some pepper to make it slightly spicy.
