INTERVIEW: Julian Jordan

Hi Julian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Amazing! I just left the studio and I can honestly say there is so much music coming up, I’m super excited!!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Love You Better”?

It’s a track that’s very special to me because I made it together with my girlfriend. I’m super happy with the result because finding the right fit for the vocal was very hard haha! I received the vocal from a songwriter I often work with and I made the production in a few days, but finding the right voice for it wasn’t easy. Then when I showed the track to my girlfriend (she is an amazing singer from the Netherlands) she said ‘why don’t I try it out?’ And it fit perfectly!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not really because the vocal was already written when I received it. Then I produced the production while on tour and I got really inspired, I really wanted to make this track work!

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

I directed it with my team and Kimberly and it was super fun to do. We wanted to make a lyric video for the people to sing along with and combine it with cool visuals. The video was made by my best friend who is a video artist and I’m super happy with the result!

How was the recording and writing process?

I was on tour when I made the track so I think most of the track was made on the plane and in hotels. The final part of the track was mixed in the studio in Amsterdam and the vocals were recorded there as well.

What role does Denmark play in your music?

I’ve had some crazy shows there and I would love to come back soon! I can’t wait to be back in Denmark to share my music again!

What was it like to work with Kimberly Fransens and how did that relationship develop?

It’s always special to work together with your love on music. It really happened naturally and we never actually planned to make a track together. But we tried it out and realized it would be a waste not to work with someone with such an amazing voice!

How much did she get to influence the song?

The lyrics were already written but when she tried it,  it turned out that she was the missing piece to the puzzle and we could finally complete it.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you’re collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Collaborating is always a challenge because you have to find a way to both be 100% satisfied with the result.              Sometimes a collaboration is not really 50/50 and the other producer or artist does all the work. I prefer and love   collaborations where it’s really 50/50. Working on your own, you don’t have to think about what other people think but sometimes the collaborator has an idea that you really like which you might not have come up with yourself.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Of course! New material is always on its way, I’m planning to release almost every month and I have so much music ready which I can’t wait to drop! Keep checking my socials to not miss a release!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Yeah it’s all planned, I already have dates and titles. But I’m not going to reveal anything just yet, you will know when the time is right.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m always touring! It’s actually really hard to find studio time in my busy schedule, but right now I’m working on the road a lot. One thing I’m really looking forward to is Miami Music Week and Ultra!!

What else is happening next in Julian Jordan’s world?

So much music; I have some really sick collaborations and solo tracks coming up. Also playing some really sick shows this year and I’m of course looking forward to the relaunch of my ‘It’s Julian Jordan’ series on Youtube.
