Planning an ideal holiday or trip can be a headache. But it doesn’t have to be, if done correctly, planning can become the best part of the trip. The excitement starts from the moment you begin. With great organisation you can also avoid any mishaps and foresee potential problems.
These are the steps to take for planning the perfect trip. And for those of you who don’t enjoy waiting around in airports (like me) there is always no deposit bingo to keep you entertained.
Pick Your Destination
Destinations will vary depending on who you are, who you are going with, if you are on a budget or have time constraints (for example, teachers may only go during school holidays) and whether you want to go close or far.
Be specific. Don’t just choose a destination, give yourself a date and with who you want to go with. For example, “come July I want to go to Prague with my friends” is better than just “I want to go to Prague”.
Pick a Time
Picking the right time to travel to your chosen destination can mean saving a fair amount of money. And it is always best to be flexible. Flying on a Thursday is going to be cheaper than flying on a Saturday in some cases, so be flexible to flying on odd days. Consider travelling out of season and book with plenty of time.
Get Time Off Work
This might be the hardest part of travelling for many. But if you have done the time planning above successfully, you shouldn’t encounter any problems when asking your boss for some time off work in advance.
Finding Affordable Flights
Booking with enough time and on non-peak dates is the best way to save money when flying. And for that you need time flexibility like we mentioned before. Use travel comparison sites to find the best deals too.
Find Somewhere to Stay
This will again depend on personal preference. Do you want to stay in the centre of the city? Or rather be in the quieter outskirts? It will also depend on who you are going with and how long for. A romantic weekend away with your partner will be a different accommodation situation to travelling with your parents, brothers and full family. There are many comparison sites that can help you find the best deals in town.
Call Your Bank and Credit Card Companies
Let them know you are going abroad and are likely to be using your cards. The last thing you want is for your bank to close your account because of suspicious activity and have no money!
Budget
Budgeting for your spending money on the trip is just as important as planning the whole process of getting there. Start saving money from the moment you have finished step one, that way your vacation doesn’t have to involve sacrifices due to a lack of funds and you can truly enjoy yourself.
Now, go out and enjoy yourself without any planning headaches again!
