INTERVIEW: Mandy Dickson

Welcome Mandy! Thank you for carving out some time for us today.  You are releasing a new album in just a few days, which is amazing! How are you feeling? Nervous? Excited?

I’m feeling really excited! I’ve been working on this album for over a year and can’t wait for people to hear it.

We love that the album is going to be filled with cover songs! Very fun concept! We are excited we can sing along. Did you stay more inline to the original version of each song or did you do your own take on each one?

My covers are, for the most part, completely different than the originals. I love all of these songs and their original versions, but I wanted to reinvent them and tell these stories from a feminine point of view. I think a new song can be done so many ways. I’m especially proud of Here Comes the Sun, which almost sounds like a different song than the Beatles version!

Do you plan to tour after the release at all? What are your live shows like for some of us that haven’t seen you live yet?

I haven’t made any touring plans yet, but it’s something I’m always considering. I tour a lot with other projects and as a soloist with orchestras, and I can’t wait to see where 2020 takes me. I have a Disney concert tour in Japan this year that I’m excited about. I love connecting with the audience when I perform and I always pour my heart and soul into each song. The stage is my happy place.

We would love to hear more about when you first knew music was something you were going to pursue. Do you feel like you had a defining moment?

I always knew I loved music and I started performing young. In fact, my first performance was when I was 2 and I stole the microphone from my sister in church! (I don’t steal mics anymore; I promise!) Around the time I was in 6th grade, I discovered Celine Dion and it lit a fire inside me. I wanted to sing like that, whatever it took. I would lock myself in my room and sing along to her album for hours!

Do you have a favorite song on main stream radio right now?

“When the Party’s Over” by Billie Eilish. She’s so creative. I also love “The Man” by Taylor Swift.

Tell us where to get our hands on the new album!

You can get it on iTunes, Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify. It’s called “Just Like a Woman”. Thanks so much!
