What is Anime?

It is a Japanese term that refers to video or comic book animation. It is characterized by large doe-like eyes. The animations feature vibrant characters and colorful graphics. It could be a comic book used for entertaining both the young and adult audiences. An anime could feature complex and sophisticated storylines that form an episode. The genre may include horror stories, martial arts, ninjas and romance. It could be fiction on space ships and robots.

The animations have been around for quite a while. They were first invented in 1917. Their production has steadily advanced into the doe-like animation we see today. The anime art style appeared on the scene in 1960 in japan. But it later spread to many parts of the world in the twentieth century. Currently, the distribution of the anime is carried out by TV broadcast, the internet and house media. It is classified into genres that target a wide range of niche audiences.

Anime combines cartography, characterization, graphic art and many other forms of imaginative techniques. It focuses more on realism and the use of camera effects than it does on the animation of movement. Anime is hand-drawn and consists of fiction that is always appealing to the targeted audience. It utilizes diverse art styles. It could include varied features characterized by large-sized eyes.

The first animations were televised in 1960. From there, the popularity of anime started growing. It led to more releases. Also, the increase in the home distribution of anime in the 1980s is believed to have popularized it in the 1990s. Besides, the emergency of the DVD formats made anime more accessible. However, it had numerous disadvantages. Some of the disadvantages included piracy and dubbing tracks on the same disc. The growth of the internet has further improved the distribution of animators online.

Brief History

In Japan, the filmmakers experimented with animation techniques in the 20th century. They used techniques that were already in use in countries like Russia, the United States, Germany, and France. Katsudō Shashin, is credited for the earliest work in animation even though there existed other works by unknown people. By 1930, Animation was well developed in Japan. Even so, it faced stiff competition from foreign producers. In 1933, Masaoka produced the first talkie anime. And in 1944, the Seo directed the first animated film.

Its history does not stop here. The 1950s saw the emergency of short animated advertisements. The advertisement was televised and broadcasted in Japan. The anime became quite popular in the 1970s. There emerged the manga graphic novels and Japanese comic books. These books were later animated. In the 1980s, anime became mainstream in Japan. It expanded to overseas markets where it was welcome and accepted.

Things to note

Anime styles differ greatly from other forms of animation. It differs in both style and method of animations. It also differs in the process and the art styles used. Even though, no single art style was dominant. Most of them share features like animation techniques, character design and so forth.

Before the emergency of the digital era, the pose to pose method was used to produce animation.
